Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Watched Chef last night. Really cool movie. Enjoyed it thoroughly.
30 Minutes or Less - I remember first seeing the trailer for this and having high hopes. I never did get around to seeing it until now and had heard it was mostly disappointing.
I agree it was somewhat disappointing compared to what it could have been, but it wasn't bad. The pacing was quick and to the point, which I liked, but the protagonists aren't very likeable so that hurt it. Some good laughs though and it's only around 90 minutes long so it's worth checking out without consuming too much time.
I remember us just randomly picking this out one day. We ended up really liking it. I happen to like Jesse Eisenberg as an actor so that probably helps.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Side note: I like the way the lingo has changed to everyone is now an "actor", but the Academy Awards still has separate actor/actress categories. I never understood this combining the sexes references.Comment

Perhaps I'm confused by the statement.

Just saw Nightcrawler with my wife. Fantastic movie. Loved it. Jake Gyllenhaal was chilling in this movie. Was never a big fan of his, but he was really good in this. Highly recommend.Comment

I thought JG was good in Source Code and End of Watch (though didn't care for it's ending). But I know what you mean about him, though sometimes I think it's the movie content/writing. Wanting to see Nightcrawler though.Comment

I just don't keep actors/directors names in my mind like I used to. After looking him up I know exactly who he is now. I was just trying to make a useless point.

Edge of Tomorrow. Live. Die. Repeat. It was still very good a second time around. Definitely prefer it in 3D over the 2D though.
This is the End. It was alright. Wasn't exactly sure how it would all come together with a bunch of comedians having to share the spotlight. Michael Cera was pretty funny.
Step Up: All in. These dance movies are a guilty pleasure of mine. Liked this one almost as much as the first one? Step Up 3D. A shame the 3D version is not coming to the US. Will have to import.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
John Wick - Completely badass. It feels like a really old school movie in terms of the plot and it's just straight to the point. The fight scenes are sick. Also not overly stylized like a lot of movies like this are, which IMO helps it. Definitely looking forward to this coming out on Blu Ray.Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. I hope there's a sequel to John Wick. Also what I appreciated was how efficient the shooting was and how detailed his shooting technique was as well.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
I just literally finished watching a Rock Hudson/Kirk Douglas western called The Last Sunset (1961) which is just a cut below being a great film in the genre. There's a lot to like about this one as it was scripted by Dalton Trumbo so there's more than just the regular western tropes though they're plenty in abundance here. (it's got a cattle drive, love triangle, a lawman out for justice (Hudson being the good guy and Douglas the nominal baddie) and a showdown at the end) There is even controversy in this one which I won't spoil for anyone that might wanna check this out but suffice it to say i'm surprised that this element of the film made it past the censors.
Kirk Douglas as usual is THE star in this one even though Hudson gets top billing. Douglas plays a character who's rough around the edges but one who can be philosophical and has a sense of humor to him. I found that Rock Hudson was a bit stilted in his role as he was a bit TOO stoic. He also seemed to be a little uptight as his acting wasn't the most free flowing. Dorothy Malone is excellent as the woman both men lust for and Carol Lynley as her daughter was pretty good.
As I said this is just a cut below being a classic mainly because it kinda meanders a bit at times but there is a lot of character development and straight up melodrama that is generally reserved for non westerns.
I give this 3 out of 4 stars.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
