Forgot I also watched American Hustle as well. I liked it fine, but didn't love it. I do think they absolutely nailed to attire and backdrop. It's a good looking movie for sure.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Got around to watching a few movies that have been on the DVR forever...
The Amazing Spider-man
6 out of 10. All gloss, sizzle and no steak. I think that is what they were going for, but I need a bit more grit in my super hero movies. Also, the fact that this series is basically being rebooted just ten years after the first series of movies left a bad taste in my mouth. I really couldn't get past that.

Liked it, didn't love it. If its in the $1 section at your video store, you will get your money's worth.Comment

Sabotoge. Went and saw this yesterday with my dad and I was disappointed. I was expecting more action & I thought the story was quite lame, even for a movie that Schwarzenegger stars in.Cincinnati Reds University of Kentucky Cincinnati Bengals

You're Next
The first half of the movie, I sat there thinking: "If The Strangers were to escalate with a sequel, this would be that movie." Shortly thereafter, I wiped that notion from my mind as the movie continued.
Obviously the title says enough: people get picked off one by one. Not much to say about it other than that. It was brutal and gratifying. You try to guess things before they happen, and engagement is plenty important in a short-stinted film like this. I think the title kind of gave off a "we're just going for the thrills" vibe, and it has a "3D" name to it. The tone is darker than that, and I'm glad that it was.
Not going to add it to my horror collection ever, but for something I was going to see in theater (then the power went out in the area), I think it would have been a fun film to see with friends and an audience. And for some strange reason, it made me want to play Tomb Raider afterward.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

I just watched American Hustle last night. I thought it was a decent movie but it seemed too drawn out. I enjoyed the cast a lot.--

Just watched Mud. Really enjoyed it a lot. Had no idea what to expect from the story going in, but man I came away very satisfied.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
The Purge
Where to begin? I'm all for ridiculousness, which is initially why I decided to watch this movie. Anyone who goes into the movie knowing the premise—then leaves complaining about the premise—needs to reconsider their determination for seeing films.
For those who don't know the basic idea behind the film, it's this: around 2020, crime and unemployment rates were at an all-time high before they decided on a national day of "purging" to lower these numbers, where everybody is given an opportunity to do whatever they want in a twelve hour window (such as robbery, rape, and murder). During these twelve hours, people of government standing are protected, emergency correspondents will remain unavailable, and all weapons must be of Class 4 or lower. The majority of people who purge are of a wealthier class, and the majority of people who are eradicated are homeless/unemployed, hence the aforementioned statistical change. On any other day of the year, there is presumably zero tolerance for committing any sort of crime.
Ridiculous enough? It better be. Does this make sense? The idea is that humans by nature have a basic need to unleash that urge within themselves to cause harm unto others, so they will turn a blind eye to this for just twelve consecutive hours in the year, and make believe that this betters the world. I don't think people can be too angry at this fictional concept. I mean we all embrace The Hunger Games, for Christ's sake. It's almost based on the same ideas regarding what is most economically viable for the masses, and people truly turn inhuman for the greater good. I would even argue that rebellion against this concept is an inherent character trait in this film as well. I don't think most of us are so inhumanly cold that we would be able to stand on a moral ground and shake hands the next day after pouring blood on them, especially since we grew up knowing otherwise.
Now, I haven't revealed anything about the main character and his family, but if you haven't found a reason to dislike this movie yet, I'm sure these guys will do something for you. Don't get me wrong, Ethan Hawke plays the character he is asked to play just fine; but damn, they really could have been written better, and their circumstances could have been conveyed in a more respectable light where you're not almost hoping that even these guys are killed.
I know some people saw this in theaters, and I think most didn't like it. I didn't really like it either, but it really did meet my expectations. For starting it dead-tired at 1:00 AM and finishing it at 2:30, I think it did right in keeping me invested, if not for the ridiculousness of it all. I really liked the calm and collected Rhys Wakefield antagonizing the family, and there was enough entertaining brutality by the time the credits rolled... but if only it wasn't written so stupidly! I think people talked about guessing the ending or something, or saying it was all predictable. I'm not really sure what to predict or not predict for this thing, because it wasn't really just a one-trick pony twist kind of ending or anything like that. I'm just not sure what people were talking about when they said that is all.
They're making a sequel, and it's releasing this year. I don't know if it's going into theaters or straight to home video, but I can imagine that as long as they keep the same rules for the national Purge and decide to follow another family (or better yet, the streets of downtown Los Angeles or something), then I think they can match the ridiculousness in tone with the story, and make a good ol' fashioned fun film. It won't amount to anything at the Oscar's, but I can't say I wouldn't be looking forward to that film if they deliver the right way. I didn't really love this one, but the reasons it initially caught my attention will still exist for a sequel, so count me in.Last edited by Blzer; 04-04-2014, 01:51 PM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

World War Z
Turned out better than previews suggested. Even though the whole zombie thing has been done to death, the different take on how zombies act kept me interested. Some of the big action sequences were pretty cool too. My only beef being...Spoilerthe air plane scene
Hangover 3
Complete waste of time. If I wasn't hungover myself I would have cut it off before making it to the end. Only good thing it had going for it was including Mother on the soundtrack.
The Heat
It was alright. Started to drag a little around the halfway point. The fat lady annoys me. She did in Brides Maids and did here too. Bill Burr and jokes cracking on Irish New Englanders were funny.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Noah - Not going to get into any religious talk but the movie strayed quite a bit from the source material, in some areas it was pretty accurate but they took a lot of liberties with it and that bothered me quite a bit. Overall the movie was decent, I suppose if I had to rate it I would give it a strong 6/10 but the liberties it took really rubbed me the wrong way in the end and in some ways ruined the movie for me.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
I think people are expecting too much if they expected a two and a half hour to not deviate from source material. The material just doesn't lend itself to a movie without a couple differences. I totally understand where you're coming from, but it's an artistic interpretation. That's like not liking a Picasso because it doesn't look enough like the woman he modeled it after.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Have you seen it? They dont just take so called "artistic liberties" they added, changed and took away numerous things that were important to the entire story itself. After seeing it I found out the director is a known athiest so, yeah, Ill just leave it at that but if that doesnt show what his true intentions were I dont know what will. If youre curious to see much better feedback about the movie check out the reviews on it over on imdb as its pretty much getting universally slammed, or check out the directors facebook page as hes getting a ton of backlash there as well.Kansas City Royals | FC Barcelona | New Orleans Pelicans
