    "Man of Steel" on BluRay.

I don't get how much hate there has been on this, but anytime you tamper (for good or ill) with a superhero with as long of a history as Superman, expect backlash.

I thought it was outstanding, and I'm old school. I grew up with the old black and white tv show, and then the brilliant Christopher Reeve 'Superman' and Superman II. I even got a kick out of the Lois and Clark tv show; come for Terri Hatcher, be surprised by occasionally clever writing and good cast chemistry.

"Superman Returns", to me, was utter and complete dreck. It's in my top 10 of most hated films. So I was VERY leery of yet another reboot.

Franchise reboots. It's like Hollywood trying to start a lawn mower for the first spring cut; keep tugging the line until it sputters to life.

Well, on this pull, the mower caught and no sputtering. Great casting choices, very ably directed (though I can do without the damn Abrams-style lens flare on space scenes, thanks), and it seems to me some care and thought went into the story instead of it feeling like it was cuked up from the belly of the Hollywood cliche' writing machine.

TREMENDOUS audio presentation all the way through, good editing (I could see what was going on in the action scenes!!!), nicely shot, seamless effects, solid to very good writing (but never really great), nicely paced, good use of flashback.

****, I liked it. I liked it as much as I liked 'Superman: The Movie'.

I would love to see another film with these characters, director, writers and crew.

The only things that I take away from the film's quality are:

Shallow side characters outside of Clark and family.
      Prolonged, redundant climax.

Its a very pleasing film, but I haven't really felt the need to watch it since theaters.

        Ehhhhh....

Superman The Movie is still the Gold Standard for me with MOS being a distant 2nd. I related my problems with this flick but I do agree with Tendrils it was at least pleasing to sit through.

Admittedly, I went into MoS with such low expectations that upon it's completion it seemed really good. I kept saying how surprised I was by it to my wife. She wants nothing to do with it, she's sick of rebooting films that she loved in the 70s and 80s. Don't blame her one bit, and certainly she's right in most cases on that.

Recently watched over the past week. I've had a lot of free time.

Anchorman: Anchorman 2 was better IMO:
            Gangster Squad: Excellent
Inglorious Basterds: About the 10th time watching, but still solid
            Clerks 2: ****ty movie.
Elysium: Decent flick, but I can't get past Ben.
Ender's Game: I usually think books are better anyways, but they skipped way too much with this movie and left a lot to be desired.
Pacific Rim: I can't get past seeing him as Jax Teller.... just couldn't enjoy the movie.
Carrie: Solid flick.. no real complaints about it.

Gangster Squad was pretty good I thought but I cannot stand Ryan Gosling in anything. Poor man's Edward Norton.

              RoboCop- 8.7

Really enjoyed it, didn't think I would enjoy it that much, really made me think of the original. I love the new suit and the black color really added something to it.

I like how this one also switched things up a bit. In the original he was emotion-less because he was a robot, but this one they sort of let him keep his emotions which was good. We got to see a bit of both sides of the Robocop.

Would loved for a bit more action though but hopefully a sequel is in the works

Ryan Gosling was amazing in Drive. Now I want to watch it again.

                        Had ridiculously low expectations, though.

Gravity - Breath-taking. Beautiful movie. Can't wait to watch that on a big TV with some surround sound.

Thor: The Dark World - Might be my second favorite Marvel stand-alone, behind Iron Man. Thought it was incredibly well-done.
Gravity was a beautiful movie that I can agree but other than that it is soooo overrated and the storyline is crap.

Ed Norton? I always thought he was a little over-hyped, but I don't really see parallels between the two.

I feel like JGL and Gosling are in the same arena, though, JGL has increased his roles since 500 Days of Summer.

Meet the Millers. I thought it was hilarious. There was a lot of cheesy parts, but I got my fair share of laughs out of it, definitely worthwhile.
