    Godzilla Vs. Gigan (1972)

All I can say is, thank goodness they returned to the traditional Godzilla style of films after the disaster that was the last one. This has all the familiar tropes with a couple differences. The heroes are just regular folks rather than scientific types and the lead who's supposed to be more dramatic than the supporting players was a bit of a goofball himself. There's a sense of campy fun in this and while the alien threat is completely unoriginal inside and outside the context of the Godzilla films they're not bad.

The new monster unveiled in this entry is a pretty menacing space monster who beats Godzilla within an inch of his life and even bloodying him up.

    A solid *** stars.

      The Conjuring -

I pulled an all nighter last night and watched this alone. I have kids so the only time I prefer to watch these kind of movies is when I'm by myself simply for the atmospheric feeling, that way it gets me more into these type of films.

I'll be lying if I said I was scared or frightened because I wasn't but then again I grew up on horror movies and it takes alot to scare me & horror films are my cup of tea. I can see why others said this is one of the scariest movies they've seen and rightfully so. I also agree with what others who've seen this film mentioned that it has an old school vibe and feel to it.

With that said I really enjoy this film. This is one of my favorite ghost movies I seen in a long time coming from a genre that I think is dying in today's Hollywood. James Wan is a very underrated director and I respect his work. He is what M. Knight Shymalayan should of/could of been. After the Sixth Sense & Signs the guy just completely sucked. Wan on the other hand has a lot of potentials as a director... The Conjuring: 8/10

Revisited Blazing Saddles after watching this very recent interview of Gene Wilder ( http://youtu.be/ezfVc5MGmIU?t=15s ). Such great writing and timing. Harvey Korman just kills in this role and it's such a shame he didn't make it to more big screen endeavors. My only misgiving about the film is the ending (subsequent to Dom DeLuise scene, which is priceless, but too short). This is where I think Young Frankenstein outshines Blazing Saddles as being the complete comedy.

Thanks for the interview link! I'll be checking that out. Gene Wilder is one of my favorites.

          The Iron Mistress (1952)

A fanciful though very fictional bio of Jim Bowie. I liked that the movie had an adventure film genre feel to it for the first third of the film but it quickly dissipates as the movie goes along. Allan Ladd gives a stoic and heroic portrayal of Bowie similar to that of his portrayal of Shane. It's not a bad movie per se but a few things bothered me about it such as Virginia Mayo's complete manipulative and cold nature which makes it hard for me to believe that anyone can fall in love with her. The story is a bit cluttered as well but it has some pretty colorful characters and the duel in the darkened room was pretty awesome stuff.

            The Killing (1956)

Really early Kubrick film about a daring racetrack robbery and all of the planning and the players involved in said robbery. I guess I'd label this one as a "crime noir" for lack of a more definitive genre. I don't want to give anything away about the movie more than I already have, so I'll just say that it is an absolute must see for any fan of Kubrick, crime based movies or film noirs in general.

Battleship - what a pleasant surprise that turned out to be! I really appreciated the time given in the film to establish the likeable characters and the setting.

Good action sequences, pretty good writing, and surprising pacing for such a film. This one is moving up my List of movies. Just a good time.

Iron Man 3 - I like all three IM films, and I think they each have their strengths. This one was a little changeup tonally, a little darker especially dealing with Tony's PTSD from the events of The Avengers and the previous IM films.

Also love that there's added Pepper, which is funny because I'm not that into Paltrow as an actress but I adore her as Potts.
                Spoiler

I also think IM3 has the best post-credits scene so far of the Marvel movies

I have that film on my computer. I've been playing on watching it, but i always get caught up with another film. i was planning on watching it after finishing " The Apartment " which i just finished.

i really liked this film. I loved the somewhat dark comedy that this film had. Loved the acting of Jack Lemmon, he played his character really well. And i don't know what it is, but this film really pulled me in. Loved every single second of it. I would recommend it to anyone.

He was pretty good but not in the class of William Holden or Jimmy Stewart. If you liked Double Indemnity you'll love Sunset Boulevard.

                      Static

                      Home invasion type horror movie.
A husband and wife recently lost their son and a girl comes knocking on the door saying people are after her.

Suprisingly above average. I did have pretty low expectations going in.
Lots of misleads as to what's going on and misleads of misleads. The husband seems like decent folk and the wife seems like a total bitch. That was a very clever thing they did there. For much of the movie it feels like it doesn't work but in the end it's one of the best things they did.

Watched two great Yakuza movies last night, both on Netflix.

Sonatine(1993) - Totally different than what I was expecting, almost surreal at times. It has a really good "dark" sense of humor to it".

Outrage(2011) - Backstabbing, backstabbing, and more backstabbing. A brutal movie. Tons of twists, right up until the end.

Takeishi Kitano directs and stars in both.

Just saw Gravity in 3D. Wow. Wow, wow, wow. Obviously the stunning visuals are a huge part of this; the film is gorgeous, and if you have the chance to see it in IMAX/3D, this is exactly the movie you want to experience that for. I thought the atmosphere was incredible and intense; again, I believe the 3D experience did indeed enhance this just by the nature of the film alone. Either way, a lot of intense moments and action. The theater even seemed to get a little dusty at times, and I'm not talking about the 3D space debris . Anyway, I highly recommend this one. I expect to see this up for picture of the year come Academy Awards time.

                              Let's try this again:

So before I let you all know what's up on the ol' movie blog I want to say that i've finally learned how to do screen caps so starting very soon there'll be some actual PICTURES from the movies i'm reviewing. It'll make the already long process much more laborious but I think it'll be more professional.

                              Blueprint For Murder (1953)

This was a pretty good hidden gem of a film noir starring Joseph Cotten and Jean Peters. It was a "did she or didn't she" type of murder story and was quite engaging. The movie even served up a bit of a surprise as the middle portion of it seemed to have been in faux documentary style with proto method acting as the detectives (especially the lead detective) did a lot of very naturalistic stuff such as bending over to drink some water while others are talking etc etc.

The movie has a very good climax that provides some real tension that makes the journey up to that moment quite good. The movie can be found on a 2 for 1 DVD along with a Jack Palance flick from the same year called Man in the Attic.

Anywho this gets ** 1/2 stars.
