Re: What movies have you seen recently?
One of my favorites to watch on a lazy Saturday afternoon.
Fred MacMurray was great as well as Edward G.
Barbara Stanwyck...always top notch.

Great cast, for sure. Stanwyck was dynamite in this era and MacMurray really surprised me the first time I saw it, since I only knew him from his TV work.Currently Playing:

Pitch Perfect. Entertaining in spots. After a while you have to watch yourself from liking the music a little too much!
John Michael Higgins and Elizabeth Banks as the announcers were fabulous, especially at the start. Rung a bit of the announcers in Dodgeball. Needed more of them.
And Alexis Knapp....
Spoileryow.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Let's see, in reverse order:
ParaNorman (2012): Not a bad kid flick at all but I dunno, I wasn't really feeling it and fell asleep a couple times watching it.
Absolute Power (1997): I haven't seen this movie since its original home video release but I gotta say, it holds up pretty well. It's interesting, Eastwood is a fantastic actor but he's just as good, if not a better director. This movie isn't too flashy but the scene where Eastwood character goes to meet his daughter and the cops, the secret service guy and the victim's husband's contract killer are trained on him is a study in tension. The story in itself is a little dated in the sense that the movie came out during the hubbub with Clinton and Lewinsky so this movie often gets painted with the same brush as other conspiracy type movies but this is a lot more adult and takes a more "realistic" take on things. Gene Hackman is pretty good as the president though you don't see him too often in the film.
This gets a solid 3 stars from me.
My Reputationhttp://www.imdb.com/title/tt0038765/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1: I thought Barbara Stanwyck was pretty sexy in this one though it's a soaper. I'm not usually into those kind of movies unless it's very well constructed and this one is pretty well done. It's also a very dated movie and one that is a time capsule. The basic gist of it is that Stanwyck is a widow and she struggles against her mother and friends who want her to grieve over her husband for the rest of her life whereas she wants to finally break free of her sheltered life. She meets a guy who is the definition of "macho" and more or less has her heart from the start which gets the small town spreading rumors and her mother being very judgmental about the whole thing. Her kids are in the middle of all this and it gets terribly soapy but Stanwyck is outstanding in her role and George Brent who plays her new found lover is captivating though at times a little disturbing with some of his heavy handed courtship. This movie like I said is pretty dated in terms of the social mores advocated by a lot of the characters but contains some pretty good acting. This wouldn't be for everyone but I give it a solid 3 stars.
A Perfect World (1993): I'm not the biggest fan of Kevin Costner's acting but he did a great job in this flick as a criminal who is a flawed but in a way, good intentioned man. He breaks out of prison with a guy who's a total scumbag and said scumbag ends up putting them in a situation where they have to kidnap a kid. Well the movie turns into a bit of a roadtrip movie where Costner and the boy form a bond and while their relationship is at times complicated they seem to genuinely care about each other. That being said the boy does take matters into his own hands towards the end of the movie when he feels Costner has gone over the edge which I won't spoil for you but they mend fences afterwards and the relationship is enriched due to it. If this movie was just about those two it would've been a perfect film (see what I did there?) Unfortunately we have to follow Clint Eastwood (though not for long he only has 46 minutes of screen time) as a texas sherrif and other law enforcement chasing Costner. Let's just say they're all a bunch of idiots and Laura Dern is annoying as hell. So those interludes drag the film down a bit. Nonetheless this is worth seeing for Costner's very naturalistic and authentic performance

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Open Season (3D). Very good animated movie. Not in the same league as Pixar's best but solid effort. Kept me entertained.
Dolphin Tale (3D). Loved it. Very cheesy but very well done. Great 3D presentation.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
So I finally added Pulp Fiction to my movie collection and watched it last night. I'm sad to say that this was the first time I recognized Steve Buscemi as the Buddy Holly waiter. After the scene passed, I had one of those 'wait a minute...' moments and had to rewind it. I can't believe I've never caught before.Ohio State - Reds - Bengals - Blackhawks - BullsComment

Miracle
I've seen it before and used to love it when I was younger in middle school or so when it came out. Just recently saw it on AMC today after not seeing it in years, personally I think it's one of the greatest sports movies made.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment
