The Croods. Really enjoyed it. Started a tad slow, but after about 20 minutes in...the story gets going. Dreamworks has really closed the gap on Pixar for me.

The Lone Ranger.
I went in with no expectations and actually came away fairly entertained. I'm not sure why such harsh negative reviews. As long as it's not taken so seriously.
Although one running theme I'm sort of tired of in movies in general....
SpoilerWhite man bad....Indian good. Always. Everywhere.
I plan to watch this on Monday so we'll see how I take to it.
Anywho, it was Friday so you know what that means: GODZILLA!
Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla (1974)
I don't really want to spoil this movie and in fact in my review I tried hard not to but this was a return to form for the Big G. This movie is very lean as there's no fat in the script. It has a ton of elements to it such as action, sci-fi, adventure dealing with an ancient prophecy and even James Bond/spy elements.
They returned to a more serious tone and actually spent a good deal of money seeing how this was Godzilla's 20th anniversary film. The monsters are all designed quite well and the fights are pretty damn good. This is probably the best of the '70s Godzilla movies and one that didn't bore me at all.

Olympus Has Fallen - I almost turned this one off a few times before getting to the end, but I ended up sticking it out. I didn't really like it all that much, but there were some solid action scenes. It reminded me of a crappy episode of 24.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Iron Man 3. Probably my favorite of the three films. Though how Mandarin was handled i wasn't a fan of. I do like they touched upon Tony's psyche a little bit. He's had mental and addiction problems in the comics in the past so having SOME issue in the movie was interesting to see.
On that note if anyone's interested in Stark amd his mind try and get the Stark DeConstructed issues of Iron Man. Some excellent writing and storytelling there post Civil War.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Oz The Great and Powerful. Complete waste of time. Using all that CGI in an Oz film was a turn off. James Franco felt like an odd choice for the lead. But the story being totally boring is what brought the movie down the most for me.
Deleted off the DVR around 3/4 of the way through. That was the only positive to come from the movie. Opened up 2 and 1/2 hours on out living room DVR after deleting.Comment

The Counselor: 4/10. When I left the theater, I still wasn't quite sure what happened in the movie. That's never a good thing.
It's one of those movies that critics and film students will love. If you're one of those types, you might like it. It just went way over my head.Last edited by dsallupinyaarea; 10-26-2013, 07:13 PM.NFL - Vikings

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Zodiac (2007)
Absolutely brilliant film from David Fincher. From the opening shot to the end credits, this one has virtually no flaws. The cinematography is top notch, the performances from all of the actors (even the ones who played smaller roles) were terrific and I really enjoyed the pacing. Some people complain about the ending (which anyone familiar with the case already knows) but not me. This film is more about the journey and not about the payoff. I'd seen this years ago when it was new, but I enjoyed it even more the second time around. Every time I hear "Hurdy Gurdy Man" for the rest of my life I will think of the grisly, yet beautiful beginning AND end of this one. It will give you chills.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Great review, I remember going to the theatre to see this one. It's a movie that doesn't insult your intelligence and I like that even though the ending is open ended the script left so many different clues and such that allowed the viewer to decide who the killer really was etc etc. Definitely one of the top movies of 2007.
Just for ****s and giggles, from '07 according to IMDB (not in order): Knocked Up, Superbad, The Assassination of Jesse James, Gone Baby Gone, No Country for Old Men, Into the Wild, Zodiac, There Will Be Blood, Transformers, American Gangster, Hot Fuzz, The Bourne Ultimatum, I Am Legend, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, 28 Weeks Later, Shooter, Grindhouse, Ratatoullie, 1408, Lars and the Real Girl, 3:10 to Yuma...
That's a pretty solid year, depending on your tastes in movies.
On topic:
Finally, FINALLY, saw IT. Holds up well even after reading the (better) book. Solid movie. Pennywise is awesome.
Re-watched Iron Man 3 for the first time since my viewing in the theater. Better this time, but I think it's because I didn't really like it in theaters. RDJr turns in his best performance of the series in my opinion, but the stuff with Pepper and then the Mandarin thing still just bring down the movie.Last edited by Beantown; 10-27-2013, 08:57 AM.Comment

The Man from Earth - 2007
Watched this on 360 via Netflix last night and enjoyed it. It's about a college professor who claims to be 14000 years old and tells his story to his close colleagues.
If that entices you check it out as its available until November 1st.
I enjoyed the writing/story and got a kick out of the director using two camcorders to film it. This movie looks like it cost less to make than Clerks lol.GO 'HAWKS!

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Watched the Devil Wears Prada last night. Nothing was on TV after the world series so I gave the move a shot. I'm not gonna even lie I enjoyed the movie. Ann Hathaway did a solid job with her role. Would I watch it again? probably not but I think it was a good flick.

I'd "watch it again," which is why I own the Blu-ray.Last edited by Blzer; 11-01-2013, 12:18 AM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment
