Personally I believe Meryl Streep to be the greatest actor/actress to ever grace the silver screen. She can do it all. And a classy dame, too. While her performance in The Devil Wears Prada is not my favorite, I thought she was once again terrific.

What movies have you seen recently?
I don't listen or read movie reviews, unless it's a movie I'm iffy on.
If I see a few trailers and want to see the movie, I see it no matter what anyone says.
Late Edit: that said - I use OS and Twitter to gauge reactions. I check RT scores mainly for fun, don't put much stock into them though. Never used IMDB for ratings or review.Last edited by Beantown; 10-31-2013, 06:16 PM.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
I used to read and enjoy Ebert's reviews.
Now I just check here for reviews. It's helpful as I have gotten to understand some of you guy's film tastes and can take your opinions accordingly.
Edit: I love imdb for information but not reviews.GO 'HAWKS!

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
I saw Paranormal Activity last Spring and really liked it. Just finished watching Paranormal Activity 2 and liked it even more. It felt like there was more tension and action in the second one. I felt myself get chills multiple times waiting for what was coming.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
As a kid I used to love watching Siskel & Ebert and the more I watched the more I understood THEIR tastes in movies. I always found both guys to be closer to the "average" movie goer compared to some of the high falutin critics in the field.
I also enjoy reading the reviews here and it gives me an appreciation for what the movie aficionados of this community like and hate.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Trick r Treat - For being an anthology based premise the movie is woven pretty tightly as it shifts from one point of view to another. This is a fun movie and can be equally creepy as it is funny. The small budget never really presents itself as a problem apart from the standard "Goosebumps" style jumps and framings. Still, this is definitely worthy of a yearly Halloween viewing.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Running Target (1956)
A hidden gem of a film as it was an independently produced budget picture starring Arthur Franz (who's basically the only guy I recognized in the cast) as a sheriff leading a posse after four convicts along with a couple yokel types, a sharpshooter named Jaynes and the gas station owner who got held up by the cons named "Smitty".
You'd think the conflict of the movie would be getting the convicts but instead the conflict is centered around the methods of Sheriff Scott and Jaynes. Scott feels that even though they're escaped cons that they should be treated with respect and dignity and thus he will do everything he can not to shoot them down while Jaynes is a gun crazy galoot who only has one friend in life and that's his rifle.
The movie has a very decided liberal slant to it but it's done well and the fact that it's shot in the beautiful Colorado country makes it eye catching. Franz and Reeves are superb in their roles and Doris Dowling as "Smitty" does a very good job as a tough as nails woman who turns on the group towards the end of the film.
The movie can be found on Amazon to purchase for $19.98. The price seems a little steep for me but it's well worth watching if you somehow come across it.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
"Jurassic Park" has been on tv quite a bit lately so I broke out my 3-movie set and decided to rewatch "The Lost World"; I only watched it once previously but never finished it (pre-San Diego).
I don't feel like I lost two hours of my life, but I have no need to see TLW ever again. Jeff Goldblum was the only saving grace and even he was limited by a bad script.
First JP is awesome, and the third one was decent entertainment. 2nd one...no.GO 'HAWKS!
