"Man of Steel" on BluRay.
I don't get how much hate there has been on this, but anytime you tamper (for good or ill) with a superhero with as long of a history as Superman, expect backlash.
I thought it was outstanding, and I'm old school. I grew up with the old black and white tv show, and then the brilliant Christopher Reeve 'Superman' and Superman II. I even got a kick out of the Lois and Clark tv show; come for Terri Hatcher, be surprised by occasionally clever writing and good cast chemistry.
"Superman Returns", to me, was utter and complete dreck. It's in my top 10 of most hated films. So I was VERY leery of yet another reboot.
Franchise reboots. It's like Hollywood trying to start a lawn mower for the first spring cut; keep tugging the line until it sputters to life.
Well, on this pull, the mower caught and no sputtering. Great casting choices, very ably directed (though I can do without the damn Abrams-style lens flare on space scenes, thanks), and it seems to me some care and thought went into the story instead of it feeling like it was cuked up from the belly of the Hollywood cliche' writing machine.
TREMENDOUS audio presentation all the way through, good editing (I could see what was going on in the action scenes!!!), nicely shot, seamless effects, solid to very good writing (but never really great), nicely paced, good use of flashback.
****, I liked it. I liked it as much as I liked 'Superman: The Movie'.
I would love to see another film with these characters, director, writers and crew.
