What movies have you seen recently?

Saw American Hustle the other day. Lived up to the hype, but I found it to have some seriously hilarious parts.

    Spoiler

Btw, Sandlot wins obviously, but I likeD Rookie of the Year next in line. When the doc is checking his arm and it slings forward and breaks his nose... Good stuff. John Candy was pretty funny as the PA guy, too.

Did he just say "funky butt-lovin"?

The pitching coach from Rookie of the Year (Brickma, played by Daniel Stern aka the tall thief from the Home Alone movies) makes the whole movie for me. He's one of the better characters of any baseball movie.

Did anyone else know Daniel Stern actually directed that movie?

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

I went and rented Man of Steel from Redbox (saw it in theaters opening day). I wanted to see if any of my views about it would change after knowing what would happen and such.

I think I like it less now than I did the first time. Look, I'm all for watching awesome flight and action and stuff, but in all good honesty, it's hard to watch action when there is very little to it. I say this every single time I talk about this movie or character, but Superman really isn't a great character to watch. He can't die, so why are they watching him into buildings? Literally, I just don't get it. I had the same problem with Thor and Loki in The Avengers, like people are fighting them to try to kill them. Gods, they are. I haven't seen Thor 2, so I wouldn't know anything about what happens there in case there is some miracle way to kill them.

Once again, this makes me question how the hell Batman could ever "fight" Superman, or how he could ever be relevant in a film that also involves Superman. It just makes no sense; Superman would rip him in half in a matter of seconds if he wanted to. It's just not really an intriguing concept on paper, and I always give them a chance in movies to make things right. I still haven't been convinced. We'll see if they do in the Snyder/Cavill/Affleck film.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

Been watching a lot of Netflix lately. Watched Drinking Buddies with Jake Johnson, Olivia Wilde, Anna Kendrick, and Ron Livingston. Loved it.

Then watched Straight A's with Ryan Philippe, Anne Pacquin, and Luke Wilson. It was good, but not something I'd go out of my way to see again.

Stuck in Love with Greg Kinnear was another great film. I really enjoyed it.

The Lifeguard with Kristen Bell wasn't all that great. It was all over the place and couldn't really decide what it wanted to be.

Been wanting to see Drinking Buddies but haven't really had the time. The past 2 and a half months have gone to Breaking Bad, then Sons of Anarchy. Once I finish SOA I'll get to watch some of the movies I missed.

I fell asleep halfway through American Hustle last night. Way too slow. The only thing it had going for it was the setting and style, and Amy Adams' chest.

Not really a movie but figured this thread is best to post my impressions. Having never seen any of his previous stage work, I had no idea what the HBO special was all about. Thought it was going to be your standard comedy special. The guy puts on one hell of a one man show. His storytelling brings you in and keeps you interested for all 90 minutes. Some funny stories about Al Pacino and Patrick Swayze had me rolling. Worth checking out if you have 90 minutes to burn.

                      I absolutely hate that movie.

Enjoyed Like Crazy a lot today. Had no idea Jennifer Lawrence was gonna pop up. Watched Blue Valentine as well (it was okay) and Butter (I enjoyed it)

Ender's Game. Not bad. Never read the book(s) and had no idea what I was getting into. Might be worth a watch if you are a sci-fi fan. I can understand why this flopped at the box office.

The Wolf of Wall Street. Good stuf , even the 2nd time around. Excellent acting from Leo and Jonah. They played well off each other.

American Hustle. Really good movie, i love the way the film was shot. Felt like i was living the high life with all the tracking and dolly shots.

The Player. pretty good movie, loved the beginning.

Non Stop - Absolutely loved it, amazing movie. Thrilling, keeps you on the edge of your seat to the very end. To me, it's better than Taken, and I loved the first Taken.
Some people say it's not perfectly realistic, which is a good point, but you don't watch Liam Neeson movies for realism.

There's really only one moment that I didn't like, and honestly I wouldn't like it in any film, no matter how serious or unrealistic it is. And it's a physics issue. Surely you know what I'm referring to. They could have done something to adjust the timing of it, but they unforgivingly screwed it up in this film.

Great movie, though! I really did enjoy it.
