I want to keep rewatching it, but then I remind myself I only have the DVD. Yup, it's that sad that I almost don't want to pop it in just because of that.

Trying to find the Italian or Japanese version of the Blu-ray, which both have the original aspect ratio and I believe lossless audio codecs.

So I'm about 4 years too late, but couldn't sleep, so I put on Bladerunner 2049. All I can say is, Damn that was brilliant.

Agree as good as the original and a feast to the senses.

We've been watching the John Wick series over the past week. I think the first two are my favorites because they are a little more streamlined and straight-forward and provided more fulfilling climaxes than 3 did with its squad shootout. Still, they all contain some pretty amazing choreographed action sequences throughout. Over the top gunplay and hand-to-hand and absolutely entertaining. The first movie had the best cast to me, but seeing Halle Berry in the third installment was great. I think the last time I saw her in anything was around Monsters Ball and X-Men.

I definitely understand the infatuation with the series with the dirth of action movies since the early 2010s, but not sure I would classify them as personal favorites of the genre. I pulled out Dredd and The Raid to re-watch and reassess. Not to mention it feels like a lot of the gun-play is drawing on the gunkata of Equilibrium which is an underrated film in my view. Overall good movies that provide a fun viewing experience for the action film lover.
You went all Master Class with your analysis, well done...so guess what I am going to be doing? I will also need to rewatch Monster's Ball because Halle Berry in that movie was, well, you know!!! (Man how time flies, that movie is now 20 years old).

finally saw Bubba Ho-Tep earlier today. Bruce Campbell was great as always and a great pairing with Ossie Davis. underrated and overfunny. I don't even remember hearing anything about this movie when it hit the scene nearly 20 years ago

I couldnt wait for Tenet to be over. It's Nolan's worst movie for sure.

It wasnt horrible or anything, it just wasnt as good as Nolan's other movies....and it was soooo bloody long.

                    Justice League Dark: Apakolips

I was not expecting it to be that violent, but I actually appreciated it given the context. There were a couple of major plot holes, but overall it was very entertaining. I might have to check out more the animated DC movies like this.

Went on a Beverly Hills Cop rewatch since they're on HBO Max. My ranking is still 2, 1, 3. The first Beverly Hills Cop is still the most "complete" movie out of the three, a bit darker too. They went more comedic in 2, but it feels like a nice mix. 3 is alright in parts, but imho they went way too hokey.

Grew up watching them, they still make me laugh.

                          Dredd
I had completely forgotten Lena Headey and Wood Harris were both in this movie. Lena is definitely a bit more restrained in comparison to Cersei, but certainly delivers that calm, quiet tension as a balance to the bombastic nature of the action. Wood Harris is great for the role, but feels under-served since its more of a character bit than anything. Still - good to see him in anything outside of The Wire. Obviously, the two leads are the most memorable and for good reason. Olivia Thirlby is fantastic as the rookie cop out to prove herself. Karl Urban churns out another great, memorable character even if he leans a bit too heavy on the Batman voice at times. The action itself is fine to great - though I've never been too big of a fan of strictly gun & guts action films. Still, lots of oohs, ahhs, and ows throughout. The apartment tower premise felt cool and fresh 10 years ago and still works really well to me basically acting as another obstacle or character to overcome. Additionally, its a nice element of the movie to keep you aware of the pacing even if it leans a bit into video-game territory especially in conjunction with the "drug" effects.

10 years later and its still a strong action film. At times it feels like a bit of a slow burn, but the rookie cop carries the narrative exceptionally well and keeps it as compelling as the action.

                          The Raid: Redemption
I bought the blu-ray back in 2013 and it still was in the wrapper until last night. Eight years of missed opportunities to gush over this film. The frenzied action shots reminiscences to early late 90s and early 00s action hand-cam films without overdoing it and driving you dizzy. Some tactical gunplay early, but thankfully as the movie progresses things become more close quarters combat with baton, knife, and hand-to-hand. Action sequences are fantastic and certainly memorable. The narrative itself is fairly basic and linear, but is delivered with a slow-burn pace that gives it a sense of mystery throughout. Definitely one of the best action films of the last ten years.

Looking forward to The Raid 2 and now have a hankering to rediscover the early Tony Jaa films.

What movies have you seen recently?

                                Godzilla vs. Kong

It was pretty good. Impressive visuals, at least when in motion. Would be cool to see in 3D or IMAX, if they're doing that sort of thing with it.

The real problem I have is this universe never had any tonal consistency. No one film really feels the same as the other. I think if every film fit the feeling that this one had, it may have fared better for some. Me personally? I would've preferred to see everything more like the first Godzilla. I know this is just me, but in this movie and King of the Monsters, there were so many times where I just sit and ask myself: "Okay, now when the hell did humans build that ****?" That's probably, once again, because I built everything off of what the first film offered.

Anyway, with that lack of tonal consistency also brought on this feeling of no real roadmap for the universe. I think they probably had a general idea of what they wanted to do, but didn't have the full throughline pieced together. It wasn't too spotty, but it was no MCU in that regard either. An initial gripe I had with the franchise outlook was that Godzilla had two movies while Kong only had one, but I think that this film served to be more of a Kong movie if you compared the two (though we got some returning Zilla characters since it's modern day), so I guess it all worked itself out.

I'm glad they got to finalize their "vision" though, if there is such a term to be used here. We know this is what they were building towards. Did they succeed? I mean I guess, at least in that it released. This isn't an epic though, not to me at least.
