I've had this on my watch list on Hulu for at least a year so finally decided to watch it last night and was not disappointed at all. Amazing movie all around. Compelling story, great cast, fantastic pacing, hilarious in parts, and thrilling throughout. At the end I was basically still trying to process everything just sitting on the couch. Superb and highly recommended.

What movies have you seen recently?

Watched a couple of old 80’s Charles Bronson flicks:

The Evil That Men Do
10 To Midnight

Always enjoyed his schlock flicks. Fun times.

Then we gave Midsommar another watch. Better the second time. Caught a lot more foreshadowing this time around and man it was disturbing.

To be honest, the only one I can remember off the top of my head is Naomi Scott as Kimberly and that's largely due to Aladdin. Well, her and Elizabeth Banks.

I enjoyed it and he did a great job...but i do understand complaints about the story not being really deep or making tons of sense. Really hope Rainbow Six gets made

Twelve Angry Men (1957): 5/5

Woke up in the middle of the night and figured I'd watch an oldie until I passed out again and here I am 2 hours later still awake (should've just gone to the tried and true Fellowship of the Ring for instant sleep). A really well made movie, holds up pretty well. I liked when Papa Fonda called Juror 3 a sadist for wanting to send the kid to the chair just because. The idea of reasonable doubt was handled well...outside of the fact that it should've been the defense attorney presenting all of this information that the jurors were coming up with and it just doesn't really reflect how jurors should operate, but it's a movie. On that front, there were a lot of impressive shots, filming so that you can see the entire table and everyone at it, or they're all standing around different parts of the room and you can point out each juror, a cool way to handle the movie mostly taking place in one spot. There's a few other oldies I want to check out, might be the day. Looking at the wiki page for the 97 version, Tony Soprano is a juror, as is Admiral Adama from Battlestar Galactica, and President Roslin is the judge, so I'm going to have to check that out to see how it holds up.

Expendables 3

My wife and I have been re-watching this trilogy over the last few months, and we're finally finished. Very fun movie.

I might be in the minority here, but I still hate that they went PG-13 with this one. It was still over the top and fun, and admittedly I don't know that it really lost much by the lower rating. It just seemed odd to scale things back given that the entire trilogy is an ode to old school action stars whos movies were almost always R-rated, including the first 2 movies.

Rush Hour
HBO Max has all three movies and somehow I'd never seen any of them. Not sure if I really feel the need or motivation to watch the other two after this, because I feel like I got my fill of Tucker and Chan's antics. They are certainly entertaining together and Tucker is prevented from being annoying which he typically does well in other movies as he tops out his goofy charisma before reaching that point thankfully.

To me this is more a relic of or perhaps a homage to a bygone era of cinema that isn't concerned about logical, real world thinking and let's the magic of movie go fairly unrestrained. It's certainly an entertaining and largely enjoyable escape despite a couple cringey lines of dialogue. Chan's stunts are entertaining if feeling a bit too Trademarkish and nonsensical. Unfortunately the gun action at the end loses a lot of the movie's charm.

Stacking up to other buddy cop and cop dramedies it feels middle tier to me. Still highly entertaining and enjoyable for the run time, but not one I really feel inclined to watch again.

^ Rush Hour 2 is by far my favorite one, but it just takes the first one and dials it up to eleven... so I'm not sure if I can recommend the sequel to you, per se. Seeing that you don't like the first film though, there's no way you'd like Rush Hour 3. You can quit after 2.

The good news is they're only 90 minutes long if you decide to give any of them a shot. But it's too bad you don't like the first one, only because it's likely that means you won't like the second one.
