I watched Coherence (2014) on Hulu at the suggestion of a friend of mine.

I loved it. Good psychological/philosophical thriller kind of in the spirit of Donnie Darko. Kept me thinking and guessing, and I went back to watch a few scenes to see things I missed.

Micheal Keaton was on Conan's podcast this week and I highly recommend listening. I'm itching to go through a bunch of his movies again, but the range of his career is absolutely crazy to me.

Outside of Batman, Beetlejuice, and Birdman what is required viewing for Keaton?

Ok....may get run outta the room here....but I LOVED Keaton in Mr. Mom. His comedic timing was impeccable in this one. A cheesy awesome early 80’s flick with the great Teri Garr. I love this movie. Not an Oscar kinda movie....just a great comedy in a great little time capsule of our country. So politically incorrect on so many levels.

If you really want to see Keaton's range as an actor all summed up in one film, then Multiplicity is the movie to see

Midsommar was real messed up. But I thoroughly enjoyed it. Out of all of them, I liked Gatsby the most. Made me want to read the book (which I've also never done).

Midsommar is a brilliant movie. I liked it so much I bought the 4K extended Director’s cut. Just really disturbing on so many levels.

My 16 year old daughter made me watch "The Book Thief" with her this week. I have to admit, I really liked it. Not in my normal wheelhouse of movies, but the story kept me hooked. If you're into the WW2/Nazi dramas with a focus on the relationships of people involved in that struggle - it's worth a watch.

Spider-Man Far From Home (3/5), Spider-Man 2 (4.5/5)

A youtube channel I watch did a Spider-Man in review and absolutely slandered the Raimi trilogy, saying it doesn't hold up and it made me go back and watch 2 again...holds up fine to me. Jameson is beyond perfect, the train scene is still awesome, the special effects don't look bad at all, and it was actually funnier than I remember. These remind me more of the Donner Superman movies than the MCU so maybe I love them even more because of that but I still think this is the best live action Spider-Man movie we've had, with Into the Spider-Verse being the best overall. As far as Far From Home, it's pretty decent. I said my piece when it came out but I still feel like I don't care for Peter Parker feeling like a 13 year old, his whiny voice just kills me. I wish he would've survived the snap and we picked up with him in college and dealing with spending 5 years without Iron Man only to finally get him back and lose him again. I do wonder how the Mysterio twist would've hit if I had no Spidey knowledge and was just going to see a movie.

From Russia with Love (4/5), Goldfinger (5/5)

From Russia feels like the movie Dr. No was supposed to be with the bigger budget. Seeing the Spectre Numbers reminds me that I saw Austin Powers before any of this and makes me love it that much more. 10/5 intro. Goldfinger though...perfect movie. One of my favorite movies ever, so many memorable moments. Just in the beginning you get Bond using a chick as a human shield for an assassination attempt, the fan bathtub "shocking line", then GOOOOOOLLLDFINGER, epic song. Jill Masterson in like 5 minutes of screentime is established on Goldfinger's side, flipped to Bond's, get her face mushed, killed and painted in gold. Moneypenny banter continues to be perfect, Goldfinger with "no I expect you to die"...and all of this without even mentioning the one, the only, ***** Galore. What makes these movies better than the Craig movies to me is they kinda wink at the silliness of it all instead of tossing it aside completely. Bond wakes up on plane, "Who are you?" "My name is ***** Galore." Connery smiles at the camera "I must be dreaming". Then she's actually good at her job and what she does, and a match for Bond. Not to belabor Superman the Movie being the perfect movie, but Goldfinger like that just nails its tone. The Oddjob fight is pretty bad and Bond turning ***** Galore should've been handled better, but other than that, what a classic.

Fargo (4/5): Not much to say, really good movie. Did Frances McDormand deserve the Best Actress Oscar that year? Oh yah you betcha.

Gomorrah (4/5): Italian movie about the mob. Gets into the way their workings seep into every fabric of the community. Doesn't really glorify anything, no spoiler but everyone loses. One thing I liked is they really didn't draw out shootings. Just walking down the street, brrrt, good night.

2001 A Space Odyssey (10/5)

The movie starts with music playing over a black screen. I thought something was wrong at first, my tv was up loud as hell, then the MGM screen and the most overwhelming music cue in the history of cinema hits when the moon-Earth-sun shot comes in and it hit me in the face. It's almost impossible to achieve sound more epic than a full orchestra so this movie was almost cheating. I'm trying to imagine sitting in a theater while this washes over you and it just must be a religious experience lol. Slightly confused at the Dawn of Man part, I kinda understood it more with the cut from the bone to the shuttle. I saw a criticism of Deakins that some of his shots are wallpaper worthy but others are just average...well this is like Wallpaper: The Movie. Every shot is beautiful, the scene where the stewardess uses her grip shoes to go upside down and the camera flips orientation when you meet her on the other side, the arms of the Clavis base opening so that the ship can dock, the actual shot of the docking with the music winding down and the Earth in the background, I'm not even going to get into the end with the trip through the universe. This movie is the reason I now know the Alamo around here is doing a showing of Clockwork Orange in October and I'm contemplating going to see it, pending virus complications. It is Kubrick season. When the next round of IMAX showings for this movie happen, I will be there and I need the 4K blu-ray yesterday. "Do you read me Hal?" "Affirmative, Dave. I read you." "Open the pod bay doors Hal." "I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that." My new GOAT. The wild thing is Kubrick said "I don't think there's any good sci-fi movies out, let me try" and made this, then Tarkovsky said "2001 sucked, let me try" and we got Solaris which is apparently another great so I have to check that one out.

Wife and I saw Free Guy yesterday. We absolutely loved it. The movie was hilarious and the overall acting was great. Definitely will be one I purchase and probably watch a few times.

at the end when he is fighting Dude and he pulls up the Captain American shield, then the Avengers music plays in the background, then he hits him with the Hulk fist. And then obviously Chris Evans cameo lol

Don't know what to say here. I truly thought I'd love this movie. Maybe it was because I was expecting something different. But I honestly couldn't even finish it. Took me 3 tries before I just gave up. Nothing about it was appealing to me. Well check that. The visuals were nice. But story wise it was just to slow and boring for me and it didn't do enough. I'm at that point in my life where I just don't have a lot of time for movies or shows so maybe that's part of it as well. Don't know. Not very often I don't finish a movie [emoji1745]

Honestly when I saw the trailer and ads for that movie I had a sense that it would be heavy on visual style and immaculately framed shots and scenery, but possibly light on story and pace. Seems like a lot of others agree with your review. A shame because the setting and subject is right up my alley.

I watched The Suicide Squad again. I gave it a terrible review. I think 2/5.

Honestly when I saw the trailer and ads for that movie I had a sense that it would be heavy on visual style and immaculately framed shots and scenery, but possibly light on story and pace. Seems like a lot of others agree with your review. A shame because the setting and subject is right up my alley.

For what it's worth I really enjoyed it and I would say it's a great companion to Excalibur which is one of my favorite movies ever. It's certainly high on atmospheric tension through the cinematography and music, but I thought the whole movie was fantastic. The cast is superb. The narrative is certainly basic at the surface level, but there's a lot going on around the edges and beneath the surface to lead the viewer into it's depths.

I was interested based on the trailer, but impressions I’ve read made it seem like trying to watch this without knowing Arthurian legends is like trying to watch Infinity War without any comic or MCU knowledge. Like there are characters that are known like Merlin, but not referred to by their known names…and I don’t know them to begin with.
