Couldn’t agree more.

This is one reboot series where they NAILED each movie.

My ONLY gripe from the most recent one was that I wish it wouldn’t have taken place “generations” after Caesar’s death. When “War” ended, I was hoping they’d let his youngest son lead the next movie but aside from that, I thought it was great.

Hopefully they do another one.. The series has been too good and too successful to not make one, I just hope they don’t take their time with the next movie.

I think they did it for the very reason that if it continued after he died, it would just feel like the 4th movie instead of feeling like a new series based directly off of that trilogy.

And it leaves the 3rd movie as the full ending. Caesar got what he wanted, a safe home for the apes and died "riding off into the sunset" as his last moments were him seeing that dream realized.

Hilarious and fantastic, bloody action.

However, much of it is either gratuitous or simply fan service. As somebody who rewatched each X-Men and Deadpool movie this past summer (yes, even the Wolverine movies and The New Mutants), I was very in-the-know about anything that I saw or was referenced, especially in the form of comedy (as about 70% of the comedy was referential, in my opinion). Others trying to see this film as a one-off might find the overall story a bit lacking, or feel they aren't in on all of the jokes.

I'll probably do an overall ranking at some point, but outside of the comedy and action (which there is undoubtedly a lot of and serves most of this movie's value), this was somewhat of a thin and messy plot all the same. It was fine, but felt like it leaned on the fourth wall the whole time. I found the first two Deadpool films to either be more coherent or tightly woven as a whole. I'm more than fine with its meta comedy, but Deadpool can do a lot more than a meta narrative.

This was absolutely a love letter to 20th Century Fox, so if you grew up seeing all these films and engaged in the online discourse over the past decade about everything surrounding these universes, I'd say this is a romp of a theatrical experience, and I hope that audiences will eat this up.

Most importantly, this is a different step for the MCU to have something so R-rated in every way. They don't necessarily have to lean this direction, but they need to see what audiences enjoy seeing on the screen, and this delivered that. Perhaps this is a step in the right direction for Marvel, because they've been missing a lot since Endgame as a whole.

In summary, this is far from perfect, but it was crazy entertaining and I was a part of its target audience for sure. I don't think everyone will be, but I gather most of OS will be.

What a fun movie. The previews looked a bit corny to me, and so I was a little unsure of it going in. Thoroughly enjoyable though. The bits that looked cheesy made sense, and just a fun ride overall.

I'll still take the original over it, but no real complaints about the movie at all.

The Strangers: Chapter 1

I'm incredibly confused. I went into this thinking it was a prequel, and after saying moment after moment that it felt like a rehash of the original, I'm now simply convinced it was a reboot playing many similar, if not identical, story beats. Unfortunately, if you're going to emulate something it's best to do it better, and this failed to do so every which way. Directing, cinematography, sound, acting, the works. One effective shot will resonate with me though, so much so that if someone says this film's title that's the first thing I'll think about. Kudos to that.

What really irked me were the stupid characters. If you're thinking I'm talking about the protagonists, I'll include them, but I'm actually talking about the attackers. Unfortunately only the protagonists face consequences for their stupid actions, and the attackers seem to luck out every which way. Stupid characters can be that, and I expect that in a horror movie; I don't expect a horror movie to forgive them for their mistakes. Plot armor is lazy writing, but it worsens the experience when it doesn't fortune the good guys.

That being said, when you take place in present day, you have to adhere to what comes with it, specifically on a cell phone. Any character in this situation would find their way out of this mess long before it gets to where it does, and this just became a frustrating watch where I was sitting alone and yelling at the screen. The good guys aren't off the hook for anything that may end up coming to them.

Now, I like the first two films and it seems that Bryan Bertino is still involved with the franchise at this point, so if they make more of them I will still give them my dollars. This is easy to pull me in just by the grounded situation, but they really need to hone in on the writing and keep it at that level by removing the plot armor, dimming the lighting, and don't let bad guys get away with things because of editing and camera trickery. Work harder toward your horror, and you'll have an easy win. This one missed the boat, if for no other reason than it tries to be the original but pales in comparison.

Bone Yard - 9 out of 10. Stars Mel Gibson and 50 Cents. Based on a true story about the serial killer who was never caught in New Mexico.

Horizon: American Saga Chapter 1 - 9 out of 10. Despite it being 3 hours long and you feel it, I enjoyed it. If you liked 1883, this is in the same vein.

X-Men: The Animated Series (1992-1997):

Don't know what to say, waited so long to finally watch this in order and in whole. Unlike, let's say, Batman the Animated Series, this wasn't on Cartoon Network so I couldn't watch all the episodes (or nearly all), multiple times, like you could with stuff on CN. Plus I remember being frustrated a lot of the time because it seemed like every other episode ended in a "..to be continued" which definitely bore out here

They basically did all the big X-Men storylines and did it well. Lots of easter eggs. It had its numbers of filler episodes, lots of questionable decisions (read: stupid) by the characters even for a kids show and the animation quality ranged from ok to disastrous.

I was like kid on a candy store, my aunt/cousins gifted me so many action figures from this series. There some that I recognize for the first here while watching in 2024 even though I played with them all the way back in 1995 (like with Gladiator). Others I didn’t realize they had anything to do with the X-Men at all 'till I took a look at the whole collection (1, 2, 3 & 4).

Take Beast as an example. I had this one and then later got gifted this one (all of this, again, from my aunt). First time I saw that second one I was like, wtf? Is that even Beast? Couldn’t blame me for thinking maybe it was a knockoff

But wouldn’t you know it, in one the episodes, which either I had never seen before (probably) or had completely forgotten about, it has Beast wearing that costume. The awe in my face, just like a little kid, all the memories running wild.

X-Men '97:

What can I say about this thing, wow. First, if you can, try watching the original series first and then this; that’s how I did it and it made the whole experience that much more enjoyable.

The level of care they took to make this right, it shows. You just know a lot of people who grew up as big fans of the original series worked on this. Like the intro, pretty much perfect. The same, but refreshed, this is how you do it. Plus adding Rodrigo in the alley / chain fence sequence, nice touch. Adding Sinister’s laugh, more winning. The theme provides a high as high as ever, again, updated a bit, but the essence is there. You could do it 3 ways: same theme, theme updated or new theme (ooofff, that’s a tough act to follow). Same case as they did for the Beverly Hills 90210 theme in 2008. The soundtrack in general is just one of the highlights. The outro/credits theme is just a chef’s kiss.

Unlike the original, the animation is good, very slick, even if I always get a bit of uncanny valley with computer generated animation as oppose to hand-drawn ones.

The writing more mature, more consistent, characters make fewer silly mistakes even if they still do (why did they diverted so many resources from the fight in the UN to take Jean to the hospital to give birth? Yes, taking care of Jean is of great importance of course, but not when compared to what was happening in the UN. This stood out because it is probably the biggest tactical blunder in the whole sequel which also happens to remind you of all the tactical stupidity that occurred in the original. I’m actually, semi-serious, thinking that they kinda did it on purpose as a call back to the original but that would be too 8D chess-y.

Other things I didn't like were: 1) Forge falling in love with Storm (how?), which is never really explained, is he a stalker? And then somehow Ororo falling in love right back (of course). 2) The whole “new sentinels” are basically a zombie-like plot. Don’t do that. 3) The soften Cable way too much. 4) Finally, what the **** is going with showing scene spoilers during the intro? What-the-****?!

On the positives, the way the X-Men fight here, combining their powers, doing actual teamwork ****, it was so satisfying. Writers took a lot of the criticism I have about the original and just improved on it.

Great job bringing the original cast where they could and, where the actors couldn’t/ wouldn’t reprise their roles, of finding suitable replacements. The only miss for me was Rogue which I’m shocked to learn that it was indeed the original actress. Either they asked her, or she did it on her own, but she tried to lean in on the southern accent thing and it just sounded off.

Nice cameos by basically all the main Avengers (except Thor is I’m not mistaken), even if some of them was just Morph (Hulk plus Mr. Fantastic I believe). The Dr. Doom cameo: boss. The original series teased The Punisher more than once on easter eggs, but not here (unless I missed it). I guess it makes sense, while the series is more mature than the original, Punisher isn’t a mutant / he is a bit more out there in terms of lethality/guns and whatnot.

Regarding the costumes, they made fun of it in (spoiler alert!) Deadpool & Wolverine and also did it here, taking a shot at the 2000’s X-men costumes (something about the leather). I know people weren’t happy about it then, but I didn’t realize it ran that deep.

The ending to episode 9 was just great, but why can’t Magneto just kill Wolverine or at least just take all the adamantium out of his body. “Metal bends to his will”, then just kill him godammit! I know why it won’t happen, but it is just so frustrating.

The ending was so good, setting up so many storylines for season 2.

Just got back from seeing it, and I'm kind of in the same boat. I enjoyed it a lot, but I also recognize it as far from perfect. It went through stretches that probably bogged down the pacing a little too much, but the peaks were all great. Absolutely loved some of the cameos and the initial end credits. Nostalgia for sure.

Anything Hammer is amazing. They really nail the look and feel of the period they are going for, and on a budget usually.
