Re: Michael Jackson has passed away
the fact is that Jackson was found innocent of every criminal charge in a court of law. He has not been found guilty of one single thing
To all the people who want to cite a civil settlement as an admission of guilt, do you realize how preposterous that is? The burden in a civil case is by a preponderance of the evidence, i.e. a very low and arbitrary burden by most accounts. Settlements in civil court are almost exclusively based on a cost/benefit analysis, and rarely have anything to do with guilt/innocence. You settle b/c it makes financial sense considering the low threshold in civil cases
Hell, if someone KNEW they could have proved in a civil court that MJ molested their child, they wouldn't have settled for 20 million. Refusing the settlement offer and giving that to a jury would have resulted in an exponentially higher verdict. Think about that.
The risk of being WRONGLY convicted of something in a civil court is infinitely higher than in criminal court. Why is this concept so difficult to grasp for some? Jackson could have spent his entire fortune defending his reputation in civil court, and all it would take is a bunch of self-righteous people on a jury to convict him simply b/c they think he's guilty, evidence be damned. Take 12 of the people on this thread that just call him a pedophile for no good reason other than media/tabloid sensationalism. They have literally nothing to go on, but their mind is made up.
btw, here is a blurb on the parents in the allegations in 2005. They sound really trustworthy. The mother also went to visit the attorney that represented the kid in 1993 settlement before she went to the police to report that her child was molested. Sound money hungry to you?
"In August 1998 the Arvizo family was detained on a shoplifting charge at a J. C. Penney department store in West Covina, California. According to J. C. Penney, Gavin and Star Arvizo were sent out of the store by their father with an armload of stolen clothes, the family was detained and Janet started a "scuffle" with security officers. The shoplifting charge was dropped, but Janet filed a lawsuit for $3 million, saying that when she was detained she was "viciously beaten" by three security officers, one of whom was female. The psychiatrist hired by J. C. Penney to evaluate Janet Arvizo found her to have rehearsed her children into supporting her story and to be both "delusional" and "depressed," although Janet's own doctor found her to be only the latter. More than two years after the original alleged incident Janet added a further charge that one of the male officers had "sexually fondled" her breasts and pelvis area for "up to seven minutes". Ultimately the department store settled out of court with the family for $137,000."

Michael Jackson Memorial/Who Get's Custody of his kids Discussion Thread
First, let's start with the memorial. It was a sad, stirring, excellent send off to the king of pop. Jermain Jackson singing smile, everyone joining together in singing "We are the World" and "Heal the World", while msnbc showing peoplle in London and New York holding hands swaying back and forth in a circle singing the song while watching the memorial on tv, and just the emotion and the amount of fans that came out, it was wonderful.
Now, to the discussion of who gets his children. I believe it should be his mother, Katherine, or either one of his sisters LaToya and Janet. During the memorial you could see LaToya hugging and holding on to Paris Jackson, his daughter, with Janet Jackson right the beside them and they were comforting her, and they looked like they would both be sutibale to adopt his children.
By the way, if you did not see the memorial, here is the link to the full memorial on Msnbc.com :

Not really, considering that was starting to tail of topic in talking about if he molested a child or not, that wasn't really on the topic of him dying. So no.Comment

Re: Michael Jackson has passed away
I only had an issue with Al Sharpton making MJ seem like a God. He made him sound like Mendella, MLK, and Gandhi rolled into one.
I can't stand Rev Al, especially after that "rape" case that pretty much should've taken away any sense of reliability and honesty with him.Comment

Re: Michael Jackson has passed away
Being around many attorneys, there is no shortage of unethical lawyers, money grubbing families, and false litigation. If MJ would have been a pedophile, surely one of the parents of the hundreds of kids that stayed at Neverland would have come forward. There were 151 witnesses in the MJ trial, but no such evidence
When the priest scandal broke, the POSs couldn't hide, because there were so many kids who had been molested by the same priests at the individual parishes that were guilty as hell. With MJ, you had one kid, whose parents were crazy, make the accusation. MJ was found innocent in a court of law.
As far as settling out of court, in a civil issue, lawyers will tell you that over 97% of these cases never make trial. Why? Because the people just get tired of the b.s. and want to put it behind them, even if everyone knows they are innocent. Most lawyers will push for mediation and insurance companies also preferring settling out of court.
We all can agree that the last 15-20 years of his life, Michael Jackson had some issues. In spite of his unique behavior, he gave a lot of money and time to good causes, most in a very discreet manner.Last edited by ZB9; 07-07-2009, 08:41 PM.Comment

@ProfessaPackmen...I do think music is befitting tribute of a singer, but I understand where u coming from.
@ MattMD...I don't see what was ghetto about BETs coverage. It was very professional unlike other nameless stations that chose to scrutinize everything.
To everyone tired of the coverage, go outside. MJ wasn't just any celebrity. At the least, he was the most famous person. To many others, he was the greatest entertainer who ever lived. He deserves the love he's getting.Comment
