Well, considering the man had such a massive impact on the music industry plus had probably a billion fans, him dying is obviously going to be a pretty big deal.

It's unfortunate that this is distracting people from the real important news of the day. I never understand the fascination with celebrity happenings, whether it be deaths, lifestyles, marriages, babies, ect. There's a lot of meaningful stuff happening today and Michael Jackson's death is but a blip on the radar.
I get your point, but it's going to be played out to a huge magnitude since he had fans all the way around the world and was influential in the music business. If you didn't grow up listening to his music, you wouldn't understand as much just watching videos from the past.

His death will be comparable to Elvis's death in 77 and Lennon's death in 1980. Those two people also influenced people around the world with the work they completed in their short lifetime.

Normally I agree with stuff like Jon and Kate, Paris Hilton, anything American Idol, etc. Michael Jackson is a bit different though, and his death obviously isn't just a blip on the radar. AT&T said his death caused the largest spike in texting traffic in their history, even more the 9/11. Even though we seem to be a celebrity culture, Michael Jackson was a global icon.

From what I read if it was indeed an overdose then it was because his personal doctor gave him too much and not because he did it to himself. I understand that it was his addiction that caused him to be taking demerol in the first place but it wasnt him that actually administered the drug to himself that day. From what I read he was given a shot of demerol at approx. 11:30 that day and his breathing started to slow until it finally gave out. His personal doctor attempted CPR and was unsuccessful, called the paramedics, who apparently wanted to call him DOA but the doctor insisted they continue CPR anyways which is why they took him to the hospital and continued CPR. According to the paramedics on site, Jackson was a complete flatline when they arrived and was gone already.

Alot of it has to do with your age IMO.

If your in your early 20's or less I can see why your wondering what all the fuss is about. You've only know him to be a freak. But if you were around during his 80's explosion where he frickin' owned the music industry. He single handidly brought "black" music to MTV.

Very true. For a kid who grew up in the 80s like me, his music was the soundtrack of youth. I didn't identify well with what happened to him later in life, but many of that era look back fondly on the times where he had released "Off the Wall" and "Thriller".

Re: Michael Jackson has passed away

The guy was a genius show business man when you think about it. I remember around '92 when everybody loved Snoop/Dre/the whole gangster rap scene and the whole grunge scene. MJ was still pretty damn big, but you could tell he was losing his grip a little bit.

Then he came out with the Black and White video. The end of the video where he went ape**** shocked everybody. It was all people talked about the next day, people were outraged. Here we have kids talking about killing each other, themselves, classmates, and people were talking like MJ killed the pope. He got so much publicity off of that.
"Maybe I can't win. But to beat me, he's going to have to kill me. And to kill me, he's gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of me. And to do that, he's got to be willing to die himself. I don't know if he's ready to do that."

Not at all true. I'm 21 and MJ is by far one of my favorite artists, PERIOD.

Maybe your not aware, but Michael Jackson is one of the most influential artists ever, and one of the biggest icons in the world. This isn't Paris Hilton's latest dui, or a celebrity divorce. Him dying is a big deal.

If Tiger Woods, or Michael Jordan died tomorrow, you don't think it should be a story?

I gotta say, while I'm sure people think it's a bad cover, Alien Ant Farm's version of Smooth Criminal is pretty decent, and the subtle tributes to MJ in the video are awesome.
