Why does Hollywood seem to want to kill off all my childhood memories. First it was Transformers 2,next is that god awful GI Joe movie and now a Karate Kid remake. What's next live action Thundercats?

This movie will bomb. The casting is terrible IMO. Smiths kid is just way to young to imagine turning into a karate bad ***. What next a 8 year old jedi apprentice that yells "Yippeee!!" Oh, sorry...anyway. I think the original KK just needs to RIP. Just MO.

This is a serious question: are movie studios required to come out with a preset minimum number of movies per year?

Because if not, I mean... you don't have to replace it with anything. There are too many movies out now as it is.

Yeah...and I like some horror movie remakes, but this just sounds atrocious. I just don't see Jaden Smith in a Karate Kid movie, I dunno. I more imagine a more nerdy/awkward kid like Ralph Macchio. Jackie Chan could be decent, though I'd prefer a more older looking mentor type. It's impossible to get Pat Morita out of my mind as that role, since he was perfect at it.

I can imagine them giving the movie a more modern spin, but it's hard to imagine them coming anywhere close to the original's magic. It's classic 80's, great soundtrack, acting, the whole "wash the car/paint the fence" training, great story... Yeah, lots of childhood memories getting ruined by the minute.

I saw part of the Bad News Bears remake with Billy Bob Thorton on cable the other day, and thought the same. The first was a classic 70's, perfectly cast, great story - Thorton was a good choice for Matthau's part, but no way they were going to get kids to match the original. Back then it was shocking to hear kids curse, now it's commonplace - sadly. Then again, I loved the Star Trek reboot so guess revisiting the past isn't all bad. Kinda funny to see today's Hollywood unable to come up with it's own iconic characters/stories

The tragedy is that the Karate Kid, like Lethal Weapon, has a waaaayyyy better script than people give it credit for. B movies are not written this well anymore. This is about as tough as a task as a Ghostbusters remake would be. I expect this movie to fall very, very, very far beneath the bar set by the original.
