I'm looking forward to seeing it this weekend, and I am a fan of the original. Looks pretty decent.

Wasn't a bad movie at all. Just not for my age group.

All you saying you won't watch it because of the original need to get a life. Like your lives will change drastically if it isn't as "great" as some of you make the first one to be.

I liked it better than the original. A very solid and entertaining movie. Sometimes Jaden Smith, comes off at "look at how adorable I am", but the kid has a lot of charisma, and is very likable in this flick. Jackie Chan gives his best performance EVER! Go see it!

Movie was great and actually better than the original...I love the original and grew up trying to do the crane move and making fun of it.

But the new version is just great, and Jackie Chan is at his best in this film.

Jaden show's he's more than just W. Smith son, but an actor of his own. Great Film and again, better than the original.

Took my cousin to see this...You know what? They didnt directly piggyback off the old movie, but put a new spin on it...and for that, it was a very enjoyable movie...

Re: Karate Kid remake with Jackie Chan

This movie was actually very good. I'm going so far as saying it is one of the most well-written films. For real.

There is never an out-of-place scene or a moment that doesn't matter in the entire film. The simplest of lines or events, while seemingly unimportant the first time you see them, prove to be extremely important to the plot later in the film.

Critics have said that the film is too long, that it takes a while to get to the point. It does kind of take a while to get to the point, but again, the entire beginning is more than just introductory fluff. It all carries weight at the end.

                      A few personal notes:

                      1. Jaden Smith is Will Smith. It's amazing how much he resembles his father from the way he talks, walks to his facial expressions. I swear, I saw a lot of his stuff in Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

                      2. The fighting was well-done and choreographed, but my adult opinion is that it is out of the age range this film is promoting or writing. I have a hard time believing that 12-year-old kids are capable of pulling off what you see in this film, and not just that, but are capable of being menacing enough to want to pull them off. Reverse the age to 21 and the fight scenes are much more believable. This goes from moves pulled off, to aggression, to even parents sitting and watching as if their child is not in an amateur hour blood sport. Way too much for 12-year-olds.

                      3. Jackie Chan does a very good job in this film. He carries every scene he is in, even outshining Jaden Smith.

                      4. The Chinese bully is Bolo Yeung reincarnated. Don't argue with me!

I thought it was a very good movie. I also liked that the mom played a more prominent role in this version. It was kind of awkward seeing 12 year olds kicking the mess out of each other. Very well acted, especially Jackie.
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

Ah, I'm rarely in that thread so I definitely missed it, but just checked it out. We definitely share many of the same thoughts.

This is one of the few remakes that took an idea and made a new movie out of it. Honestly, it's only called Karate Kid for marketing reasons as karate is nowhere to be found in this film and the story is very, very loosely based on the same idea.

This movie was pure gold! Way better than the original as well. Jackie and Jaden were equally great.
