In no way am I defending the quality of any individual remake but the constant whining and bemoaning of folks about "raping their childhood" is just lame.

Studio's remake films/tv because people WATCH them in higher numbers than original but untested properties. The key being that nobody HAS to see the remake if they choose to "protect their childhood" but guess what...enough people go and see it anyway as well as introducing the intellectual property to new potential fans.

It's simply a business.

As for the complaints of no creativity left in Hollywood...Ton of new stuff fails every year. That failure rate is what drives the remake surge.

I wonder if any of the original cast will make an appearance. I hate when they re-make these old movies. But its easier for Hollywood to piggyback off an old movie than to come up with something original.

They already tried and failed with The Next Karate Kid. I can't see this being good...especially since Mr. Miyagi is no longer with us to provide a cameo appearance. RIP

I'd much rather pay full price to see the original Karate Kid just brought back to the theaters and I'm sure there are plenty of others.

co-sign. wouldn't mind seeing Karate Kid or Back To The Future on the big screen again.

KK and BTTTF are first day blu ray purchases for me.

Speaking of the original, I just thought of this. Anyone close to my age (31) remember the first time you saw the movie having no freakin' clue what Johnny was doing in the bathroom during the costume dance?

He was rolling a joint...but at the time, I had no f'n idea what he was doing. I thought maybe he was creating fake teeth to go along with the skeleton costume...that was my standard operating theory back then. I asked my parents what he was doing and they, wanting to maintain my innocence, simply said, "I don't know".

yeah, I was the same way. I guess I was 7 years old when I saw this in the movies, and I remember watching it on video tape a million times later as well. It probably wasn't until I was a teenager that I realized what was going on

Yeah, that always puzzled me as a kid. It wasn't until I was in high school that I figured out what he was doing.

On a related note, I still have my Karate Kid headband.
