I agree with Memento. Too bad American Beauty came out in 1999 because I think that would be the clear winner.

For me, yes. I paid no attention to Heath Ledger's passing once I got into the movie. Because that's the thing with me: I was so into the movie, I did not see Heath Ledger. I only saw the Joker. That's what made the movie so great to me, is that I did not see actors playing certain characters. I was truly believing that each person on the screen was their particular character.

By no means am I arguing against TDK, I agree, it belongs at the top. When I watched Heath Ledger's performance, a sense of darkness was present because it was like watching the dead perform which really transformed the movie into something I hadn't experienced in a movie in a long time, if ever. Unfortunately, his passing had a lot to do with the buzz, which in turn led to an unforgetable experience.

Honestly, that's never in the equation for me. In fact, I would probably like it more if he were alive, knowing they could evolve his character for yet another movie. Knowing that he can't actually demoralizes what he says in the end of TDK.

I think what you say here adds even more to what I said. Knowing you won't get the chance to see a reprieve of this role, forever a cliffhanger.

What about Forrest Gump? I would say Titanic due to all the records and awards it gathered, but Gump IMO was a much more watchable movie foe everybody.
