Loved the first one thought part two was ok or below avg. I couldn't sleep for a week after I saw the first one this did nothing for me.

Given the similar nature and effect of the movie, if PA2 was the first of these movies, would you be more freaked out?

Nope there was just something off (in a good scar way) about the first one. It had the tension down to a T and the atmosphere of the movie just felt scary. I never felt that way watching the second movie.

With that I would kind of agree. I do think that the first one is better and scarier, but many other people don't seem to think so. Oh well.

There's a rumored alternate ending, but I don't buy it as no one can provide actual proof it exists.

There were at least three endings to the first one, so it wouldn't surprise me.

I disagree. I thought the first one had great tension but the second one took it a step further.

I thought the ending of PA2 was the best part though. Frightening.

Yup, that's what I was getting at.

The second seemed to rely more on jump scare tactics than dread, which is what encapsulated the entire first movie.

Saw the 2nd one today. It was good but I still liked the first one better. I think its because I knew what I was getting myself into this time.

See, I think that was more of the difference though. The first time, Katie was being demonized/haunted and yet we didn't know why, but at first it would seem harmless. It only seemed to get worse when Micah provoked it (camera, calling it out, EVP, Ouija board, power, cross, etc.). The demon kind of decided to get angry at that and lash out at them more as things happened more.

In PA2, this demon actually had a motive. I think that was something else I didn't like either, that they read online that they had to sacrifice their first born son and blah blah blah. If the demon wanted the baby, why haunt them first? Just take the infant. That's why I'm saying it seemed cooler in PA when the demon was just getting more pissed, and here it seemed it just wanted to make a movie lol.

What I'm getting at here, though it sounds like I didn't like the movie, was this one was at the very least on par at the first one, but here were my shortcomings which I found to be inferior not in the movie's quality, but in what I found PA to be more unique and eerie in the first place. This is actually a pretty good "franchise" they have going on here, and if/when they come out with a third one you know I'm off to see it.

I agree with this. I liked the movie but I like the first one better.

I don't think the demon could of just taken the baby. It needed to haunt and then possess a human first to take the baby. That is why it went after the mother, and then Katie.

Yeah but thats not what I have an issue with. Its doesnt seem like the same demon between movies. Everything just seems different. In the 1st movie everything seemed to get worse as Micah provoked it, while in the 2nd the thing had a motive. Movites and actions do not match between the movies IMO. I feel that knowing what we know now, the way he haunted should have been different in the first one.

I need to go back and watch the 1st one again. Watching it while thinking "the demon is doing this stuff because its after Katie's sisters baby" should be interesting. Its like watching Fight Club a second time knowing the guy is crazy.

I really didnt like her getting dragged to the basement the way she was either.

Maybe some annoying kids in the theatre have clouded my judgement slightly. I liked the movie just thought it could be better.

This is true, but if you get a chance, watch the part with the husband and his daughter in the kitchen, they talk about getting rid of it like the maid lady said and the only way is to make it go to another family member. Hence why it went after her in the first one. I didn't really catch that (noise in the theater from all the kids) I caught it after I found a bootleg copy. Weird after I realized that, made more sense.

Going to pick up the sequel today at BBY, can't wait to see this for the first time and come back later to read people's thoughts that were placed in spoilers.
