Ah ok. The alternate on the blu-ray was my favorite, too.

          I watched the DVD ending.

Very disappointing. I'd rank the endings as:

          1. Demonic face
          2. Slit throat
          3. Shot by the police officer

It's no surprise that the most hollywood-ified (?) ending would be my favorite.

One of the least scariest films I've ever seen.

I still don't understand the hype around this movie.

Olson - it's a movie that will scare those who are prone to be able to use their imagination to fill in the blanks OR those who havehad paranormal experiences of their own. Me, I Amin both camps... There are far fewer things than being sound asleep than your bedroom door slamming shut when you are the only one home....

Garnettrules - I agree w your ending, that would have been by FAR the scariest ending I think....

I had a free rentel at one of these blockbuster kiosk machines and rented this movie out of curiosity. I should have just listened to the painful reviews this movie got. I ended up skipping chapters and turning the movie off. I feel bad for anyone who wasted their time and paying money on this in the theaters.

To each his own but I suspect that some of you might have too short of an attention span for this movie. Skipping chapters? No wonder you disliked it. You missed the entire point of the movie. The tension slowly builds in a dramatic fashion. What is made terrifying can only be so when contrasted with the mundane.

May I ask, what were you looking for, a CGI monster in the hallway, to stop fast forwarding? Were you trying to just "cut to the chase" and find some action? You say you feel bad for me who wasted my time and/or paid for this? I feel bad for impatient folks who are unable to enjoy anything that isn't immediately obvious and overt. You will truly be missing out on a lot of life with that attitude.

Btw - Think what you like but don't try to mislead folks. This movie did not get painful reviews, it got great reviews. It's currently at 82% at rottentomatoes.com :

Consensus: Using its low-budget effects and mockumentary method to great result, Paranormal Activity turns a simple haunted house story into 90 minutes of relentless suspense.

I only read the amazon.com reviews. I just could not take the movie serious, or immersive with the horrible acting and direction of the movie that was displayed. When something seems too fake to me it does not keep my interest.

I have watched paranormal documentary shows on cable that kept my interest, and tapped into my imagination because it was displayed with some sense of authenticity. This movie did none of that.

Alright fair enough then. I speculate that I was more affected due to my past experiences with the paranormal, similar to events in the movie.
