Gotcha. After trying Juice Defender, I uninstalled it. Didn't really like it. I'd rather use ATK, as it allows me to manually disable the stuff I want & kill stuff running I don't want.
Harm is a strong word, it's just unnecessary. The perceived advantages and why they are pointless:
Resource clearing. The idea is that all these background programs are hogging resources that slow the phone. The truth is that the way Android is designed, background programs are put into their lowest state which is typically completely idle, with the exception being programs that are designed to do something in the background (like access the network or playing music, etc). If a program comes up that needs resources, Android is designed to clear background programs to clear up resources as needed. The net effect of this is a task killer can degrade performance when using programs designed to sit idle in the background without giving any real performance boost.
Battery savings. Any battery savings you may find with a task killer is from killing tasks that access networks. You are better off turning off programs that access data, or even better getting a program like Juice Defender to turn off data completely when not needed.
So it's not necessarily that it's going to do harm so much as they can be overly aggressive and any benefits can be gained other, better, ways to get rid of the detrimental effects that a task killer can cause.
I'm using these tips & still have a 1/2 a bar since yesterday in the AM after watching this video..
The biggest help was downloading a Task Manager. I use Advanced Task Killer
Thanks for that! I've been having problems with battery life lately.

Installed juice defender. Let's see how it works as I am on a FULL Charge. Also, is is it the free tapatalk what people use to post on OS from their phones, or is the paid version.
Also do I have to enable anything in my OS profile to us tapatalk

I REALLY want to root my Evo but I'm scared that I'll mess it up.

I know how intimidating it is, but you'd have to try pretty hard to mess it up beyond the point of recovery.
I originally tried to do one of those long manual root procedures, and it somehow messed up, even though I followed it to a tee. I freaked out thinking I broke my 2 day old phone but there is almost always a way to restore the phone.
Now they have a few "one-click roots" out there. You plug your phone into your computer, download the rooting program, literally click one button, and you're rooted. If you have an EVO that came with Froyo 2.2 out of the box, you can use unrEVOked (this is what I used). I hear there are other similar, simple root methods out there but at the time I researched, they were for stock 2.1 EVOs, so I didn't look any further.
hell, do a search online, it's easy to find an apk for tapatalk pro. I'm pissed that i've paid for so many apps when it's so easy to find them online. lol.

man do the Unrevoked root. Your phone will reboot 2 times and you'll be rooted forever. You wanna tether 4g for free instead of paying Sprint 30 bucks per month, you gotta root.

Seriously. A simple google search of the app name and then "apk" and you're set. You can even do it straight from your phone if you have a File Explorer app.
For all those with Beautiful Widgets, does that thing kill your battery? I noticed that since I installed it, my battery lasts like 5 hours even when I'm not using it.
My co coworker just streamed me at my desk onto justintv from the Driod X like it was nothing. Showed me the entire stream from his laptop as the phone sat there. Incredible what this thing could do in the wrong hands

Depends on what you have turned on. I turn on stuff like gps and 4g when I needed. I keep screen brightness low. Turn of wifi when I am in a hotspot. Its all what you have running.
