Are there better battery management apps than Snapdragon's Battery Guru?

Just interested...don't want to give up unlimited if it's definitely worthwhile. I could see her tethering her iPad to the phone while at work, so that'd up her data more.

My One is getting really, really hot. I was running MLBTV audio while driving home yesterday, I put it on the FM transmitter, and when I got home my phone was at 131F!

Today I had MLBTV radio up just for a bit on my drive and it was up to 113. I decided to take it off and it was down to 103. 5 minutes after getting home, right now, it's down to 93.

        Is this.....normal? I don't think it is.

from what I understand, most smartphones are like pcs, if the CPU gets too hot it will shut itself down before it does any damage to itself... I think most phones give you a warning before that happens as well.

edit.... a quick google search tells me that this isn't uncommon with the One

So it won't do any damage to the internals of the phone? I mean, this thing was scalding hot. Almost burned myself.

113 is fine, phones have no active fans, so heavy processing will cause it to heat up. As long as you don't leave it at that temp all day, it should be fine. If its still under warranty, you can talk to them and say its getting to hot.

If you aren't overclocking it, then it is fine and normal.

Not overclocking it. The phone was purchased on like, the 20th. Not sure if I should go and talk to them.

Also, is there a texting app that's not GoSMS that has "list view" instead of chat bubbles? I hate those damn things and Textra (which is super light it seems) would be perfect if it had list view. GoSMS is getting bloated and I feel like it's affecting my battery life. It was the most used app today according to the usage stats from the battery widget. 40%? Can't be.

Try Handcent. Custom style - bubble settings - conversation style - android.

Edit: Amazon's app of the day is Cut the Rope. A very popular and fun game. Go get it for free if you don't own it already.

I tried Handcent and didn't care for it. So cartoony.

Maybe I'll just deal with the bubbles of Textra or the bloated GoSMS.

Any advice/comments? I've been out of the loop a bit on phones since we haven't needed one for a while.
I'm in the same boat. I *think* it's safe. There's a Samsung announcement soon, but it looks like that's for the Note 3 and possibly their new smart watch. There would be a lot more chatter/leaks about the S5 if it were coming.

Wife just got the HTC One. Very nice and instantly made me and my old iPhone 4S jealous.

I HATE cases though. The One is like the iPhone 5, kinda needs a case or will get scratched to hell. So I think I'm going with the S4.

Any time you install a 3rd party messaging app you have to disable notifications on the default app. Just open the stock app, go into its settings and uncheck notifications.

We're waiting a bit now, just had to buy a car so that trumps phone lol...

We may check out the Note 3 when it drops though, the dealership finance guy had a Note 2 and we got into a 5 minute discussion on phones while signing papers lol

powerusers - do you think i can really survive with a 16GB S4?

i've always had 32GB iPhones, now i know and plan to move photos, music and videos to the SD card - that'll certainly help, but the 9-10GB free out of the box seems pretty low.

i've been researching this all morning. sounds like APPS2SD will help a little, but not in all cases. also it sounds like i would probably end up with the latest ROM for which they haven't cracked the bootloader yet. so there goes my plan of running CyanogenMod for the near future at least.

i would have bought the 32GB version by now if the 16GB version wasn't $100 cheaper. that's a big gap. Amazon has the 16GB for $129 right now.
