    Re: Official Android Discussion Thread

    hey guys, I'm back.

I'm doing some major stress tests, running video off youtube, loads of gaming, benchmark tests (which drains battery more than anything else) and etc. The battery life is rock solid, one of the best I've used. Not sure if anyone here has the OnePlus One, but its around the same battery life. Normal usage will get you around 4-5 SOT, and a few days of stand by time.

Since I have the international version, I'm not pulling down LTE which drains more battery than the HSPA+ I am currently on. But do not worry about battery at all. The battery is big enough and the snapdragon really does a great job at power management.
Any other questions I can hopefully answer?

Gonna go pick up an SD card for my S5 in a couple hours. Thanks to my music downloading app, I now have 415 MB of free space on my phone lol. I'm thinking of using the SD card strictly for my music.

Which one do you use? Most of the ones, I've seen are sending your data to India. I've been looking for one that does not have those permissions like contacts, location, and etc.

Which music app? I've been using GTunes, and it's pretty reliable. Only like a handful of songs I couldn't find.

I'm due for a phone upgrade on Verizon and am going to make the switch from iPhone to an Android. I've been primarily looking at the Samsung Galaxy phones and am trying to decide if I should go with the basically free S4 or an S5. I'm not one that has to have the latest phone, so would an S4 be a good buy at this stage or is it worth it to spend a little bit to get the S5? Should I consider LG or HTC? Thanks for any opinions.

I'm not a fan of the S4. I felt the build quality was pretty bad.

I would have you take a look at the HTC m8. It should be a bit cheaper since it came out in the summer. It's a great phone, and it's made out of aluminum. That aluminum really helps with drops, and other bangs.

On the other hand, if you look at the S5, it is waterproof and dust-proof as well. I didn't know how nice waterproof phones were until I used one. It's great knowing that you can use your phone near the pool, in the bathroom, and etc, without needing to worry about protecting your phone.

The G3 is a decent phone as well, but The m8 is still my choice for best phone out right now for VZW.

I liked my S4 when I had it. I'd stay away from it. I know of you said you don't have to have the latest but that phone is almost 2 years old and you'd be signing a 2 year contract.

For what it's worth, I'm sitting at 1900 songs, and literally about 17-1800 of those came from that app.

No case for me. I like my phones naked. This phone is too gorgeous to put a case on it anyways.

Here is another NOTE 4 review -

                              Final words

So there you go - time to draw the line and see how the hot favorite for the phablet throne this season did. It was a wild ride, but as it turns out, summing it up is far easier than we expected. Let's start with the key findings from our review.
                              Key test findings:
                              • The design is really impressive and so is the build quality, but the gap around the display takes a few points away
                              • Display is as good as they come
                              • Battery life is excellent
                              • Superb performance, proper benchmark champion
                              • Audio quality is excellent
                              • 16MP camera is a stellar performer, OIS works like a charm
                              • 4K videos are the best in business
                              • Loudspeaker loudness is a rare excellent

The Galaxy Note 4 impressed us with its look and feel, and flexed some hardware muscle while at it. The 16MP OIS camera didn't disappoint either - to say the least. The battery life was pretty awesome too, while the user interface has been nicely polished and stripped off of a lot of clutter.

The heart-rate and blood oxygen sensors will always have limited use but, as the S Health app improves, they'll be getting closer to realizing their full potential. The fingerprint sensor is also a welcome addition over the Galaxy Note 3 for those who would want a little extra security without having to type long passwords.

We particularly like the new S Pen features and the improved multi-tasking, which extend the Galaxy Note 4's advantage in terms of productivity. Indeed, there's no other smartphone in the market that can quite match the latest Samsung phablet as a productivity tool.
But, as we said in the beginning, a flagship risks being remembered for its failings rather than its achievements. We didn't quite find any of the Galaxy Note 4 shortcomings bad enough to potentially go viral in the wrong way.

We would have appreciated water resistance, we don't really like the step back from microUSB 3.0 to 2.0 and the user interface, while certainly headed in the right direction, still requires an update or two to become completely consistent, but we don't think any of this is a deal-breaker.

Stereo speakers are another item on our wish list, but maybe that would have pushed the dimensions beyond the point of reasonable. Finally, we really hope, as production catches up to the demand, that Samsung takes care of the gap around the screen and give the stellar design the flawless build quality it deserves.

Love seeing that note 4 battery life and charge time, wow. I might not want the back up battery but I'll get it just in case. I have to wait 4 months for an upgrade though. Arg
