It's not that the fingerprint scanner on the back is terrible, it's more about how it is implemented on the Note 8. Instead of being centrally located it's right next to the camera in a corner. I'm getting used to it but it's pretty wacky still.

Activated my phone. Getting use to it as it is smaller than my Nexus 6. So far really liking it.

Phone is really fast and very responsive. For some reason to though, it didn't update to Oreo 8.1.

Need to do some research and find out if the update is an OTA or beta update for owners

So what's the cheapest way to get a S9+? I am willing to change carriers as I am joining plans with my wife. I don't buy new phones very often. I got the Iphone 4, and Galaxy S5 soon after release. So it's been like 4 years since I got a new phone. Is it possible to get one of these new for like $400-$500? My trade in of an S5 won't be worth jack. Or are you pretty much always going to pay full price these days in addition to being locked into a contract?

Weirdest thing just happened, went to get a drink and heard my phone ringing, didn't rush to get it so I missed the call. Look at the number and it appears that I called myself? Galaxy Note 8

Target gave us a $100 gift card and also got Verizon's 300 savings in bill credits...I think that's the best you'll see.

You can get even better options on a Pixel 2 XL i think, a few months ago I got mine at 300 from verizon in bill credits and a 300 GC from Target (or was it 200, i forget, but a solid GC).

My wife loves her phone though...taking a bit to get used to it, but it's really nice. Her S7's home button was getting jacked, and she's on her phone so much. Hoping she can keep this for longer than 2 years lol

Something I haven't given much thought to before.

What percentage do people charge their phone/tablet?

You can go on various sites and people have differing opinions on when you should charge it, and if you should charge it to 100%.

For me, if I'm able to, I always just use up my battery as much as possible. If I know I'll need it for awhile the next day, I'll charge it. But if I can plan it a certain way, I'd charge it once it gets below 15%, and always charge it to 100%.

Anyone prompted or running Android Pie?

My Essential Phone updated to Pie, and I'm really liking what Google has done.

Operating system feels real responsive. New swipe gestures are great.

                Excellent job by Google...

My S5 is getting worse and worse. Soooo slow right now. A factory reset might help, but I think it might finally be time to replace it. I was hoping to wait until Black Friday, but I was poking around on Verizon and it says I can get $300 for for my S5 right now. I guess part of being a new customer too.

I was looking at the S9 and after the trade in it comes out to be about $499.

Should I hold out until Black Friday or is this a deal I should jump on?

I charge it overnight every night. I'll try to leave the house with as much power as possible and will charge in the car usually if I'm below like 50%.

S5 battery last about 3.5 years before it stopped holding a charge.

                      Android 9.....

Is it sad I'm still on Android 4.4? I like my tablet. No issues with it. Though I made mistake of buying it without looking at if it gets updates. Updates were abandoned for it early on.

Next time I buy a tablet, even a phone for that matter, that's the biggest thing I care about, the android version and longevity of updates. I don't wear out my things like most people, so I plan on keeping them for as long as I can. Don't see need to get new ones every 2-3 years.

Might get new tablet and/or phone by Christmas. Just hope I get ones that keep updating. Don't want to get one and updates get abandoned early and eventually some apps require versions beyond what I have again.

I pick up my phone and have it in the palm of my hand and my right index finger is right there at the scanner, works perfectly for me. (Galaxy Note 8)

I don't hold my phone like that at all. Ever.

I'm hanging on for dear life with my Note 5 until the front/screen scanner gets implemented.

How do you hold your phone? Thought one hand scrolling with the thumb was pretty normal.

I hold my phone with my right index finger along the right side of the phone, with the point resting at/above the power button on the side of the Note 5. My right pinky props the phone up on the left side of the bottom of the phone, while my ring finger rests as support on the bottom third of the phone with the point hanging off the left side of the phone and my middle finger a bit above that in the same position.

Then I have my left index finger on the top left corner of the phone for support.

Then I type with both thumbs.

At no point does any part of my finger ever touch where the new fingerprint readers are, lol.

I have the LG G6 and really like the placement on the back center just below the camera. I pick the phone up with my left hand normally and my index finger is right there.
