Re: Getting this new HDTV tomorrow
I pulled the trigger on this deal as well. I agree, its has a very nice picture. I'm going to find my DVE calibration disk and use those settings to see how much better I can make it.
I think the 120hz/240hz is whats used to get that "soap opera" effect along with reducing motion blur. For me, I used the ESPN channel test to see how good a tv can handle fast moving objects. On some TVs I have seen, if you turn it on ESPN and watch the ticker at the bottom, you will see how good(clear) or not it scrolls the information across the screen. This TV handles that well, but the verdict is still out on the soap opera effect. It looks cool, but not really sure if it makes a difference to me or not.Comment

Could you post those settings once you are pleased with your results. I'm super pleased with the picture now but I'd love to see if I could make it look even better.Comment

Re: Getting this new HDTV tomorrow
Sorry, not yet. Haven't been at home much the past two days so hopefully I'll get to it in the next day or so. I did find the settings below on avs forum that I used when I initially got the tv and what I am using currently. These are for the older model 470xvt though so not sure how much difference there will be for the 471xvt. These are pretty good though, but the colors seem just a tad off to me.

Re: Getting this new HDTV tomorrow
Got some time to calibrate the TV using the DVE disc last night so here are my settings. Let me know how these work out for you. I may tweak these a little as time goes on as I have noticed that the picture quality has gotten better since I first got it. Guess it needed time to break in a little.
Picture Mode: Custom
Backlight: 37* (still not sure about this one - may tweak it down, but not my much)
Brightness: 48
Contrast: 46
Color: 48
Tint: 2
Sharpness: 3
Advanced Video
Noise Reduction: off
Color enhancement: normal (*This was supposed to be off - was thinking of color temperature which is set to normal*)
Advanced Adaptive Luma: Off
Enhanced Contrast Rato: DCR
Color Temperature: Normal
Red: 128
Green: 133
Blue: 128
Adjust these to your liking, but I use:
Smooth Motion Effect: low
Real Cinema Mode: SmoothLast edited by debonair9; 12-11-2009, 03:01 PM.Comment
