I've not followed this film too close but man the lead really looks like a total tool. I think this has FAIL written all over it.

So you know nothing about this yet label it is a total FAIL based on the looks of one actor? Interesting.

I actually think he looks the part much more than Toby did.

I think Tobey had the look right at least for the first movie but the problem was he never "grew up" so to speak in the next 2 movies. Tobey Maguire hasn't aged very much since that first movie and that kinda dragged the other two films from an aesthetic POV. Tobey was perfect for "puny Parker" but he could never really bulk up or look older/experienced when he should've.

WOW! I agree. This could turn out to be very good, yet King Odogg labels this guy a tool.

If the lead actor is poorly cast and unlikable it doesn't bode well for the film at all. Ive been wrong before though, Daniel Craig as Bond and Heath Ledger as the Joker come to mind..

When I saw the teaser before Captain America, the POV shot looked a lot more realistic, and less CGI-heavy (especially on the rooftops with the birds and such). I'm convinced that shot will probably be in the film. In my initial viewing of the teaser online, it looked way too computer-generated. Maybe the 3D helped sell it.

I'm able to find a bunch of information, no doubt as I know how to Google it all and hit up AICN, but I'm asking what you or others here are most excited about and/or think will make this a good movie.

Perhaps I'm just still feeling like I got thrown under the bus by that last joke of a Spiderman is why I'm grouchy about this one...

That is partly the reason, to be honest because this has nothing to do with that third Spidey film. I like the casting and there's no obvious lover's distraction since MJ isn't included in this film.

I've liked all the production and set shots I've seen and the fact that they're basing the entire movie close to his time of origin and in his high-school days is nice. Plus, the villain and his traditional history with Parker intrigues me as well.

So true. I read the comics as a kid, and after Parker grew up, he developed a more athletic build and resembled more of a jock than a geek.
Toby looked great as the highschool nerd in the first film, but like you said, he never really looked the part for the remaining story.

Hopefully with this new series, the new lead will grow into the role better so we're not always seeing him as some geek.
I think Toby could put on 50lbs of muscle and I'd still want to give him a wedgie.
