I still have to re-watch the original two movies for comparison's sake after seeing the new movie, but it more than holds it's own.

The new movie improves on pretty much all of the weaknesses of the Raimi films and more, and the cast is much stronger than the original's as well. At the same time, I don't want to go all revisionist history here because the second movie is still one of the best superhero movies ever.

This movie blows 3 out of the water, is better than 1 and is about on par, for me, with 2. Although I REALLY liked 2 for a long time, at least for what it is.

I think the sequel to this, though, should be fantastic.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man (2012 film)

Got to see this last night and while I wasn't blown away, I thought it was REALLY good. Immediate impression after the movie is BETTER than 1 & 3, on-par with 2. Though I think that it'll probably surpass 2 in my eyes if I watch Spider-Man 2 again.

Emma Stone...this girl is like sunshine man. Feels good to have around! I will feel really sad if/when they go that route with Gwen Stacy.

I kind of disliked Garfield's Parker during the first 30 or so minutes because I thought he was too angsty and a bit of a jerk. The more that sense of responsibility became instilled within in him, the more I started to like him until it finally went "ah! Now that's Peter Parker!" Between him and Maguire, I prefer Garfield for Peter Parker.

The Lizard was kind of "meh" as a villain.

As we've seen from Batman's influence, the science here is on display. I really liked the webbing (aka "bio-cable") and how they made it a point to show WHERE Spidey shoots his web when swinging. I also loved the fact that he makes full use of his web powers constantly when in battle - something that the first three movies didn't really do IMO.

Now if they could just bring this Spider-Man to the Avengers....

The webbing is true to the comics...i think he stole the technology from the military and not create it himself.
sam raimi's movies broke from the origin...if he really had the capability to shoot webs, it should have been out of his *** instead of his wrists. lol

Loved it. Far exceeded my expectations, and my issues from the previews with his mask off weren't an issue in the least. Loved how true it stayed to the origin, felt like a Marvel movie instead of a Raimi version of Spiderman. My 3 year old loved it as well. Can't wait to see how they have this all unfold now, since it's following the true path for once.

I was totally thinking that scene could've been in 500 Days of Summer. Webb just gets it, man.

Saw this today, really liked it. I thought the villain was kind of dumb but I liked this Peter and Gwen better than the other movies Peter and MJ.

I saw it today and enjoyed it. I'm no big Spiderman fan, but about a quarter of the way through it, I realized just how much better Garfield's portrayal of the character was than Tobey Maguire's.

I saw it last night. Pretty good. I'm not sure if I would put it on par with Spiderman 2, but I think with Garfield as Peter Parker and Webb knowing how to make personal drama really compelling (the first half was a lot more interesting to me) this series has the potential to be pretty damn great. It wasn't so much about Spiderman as much as it was about the Amazing Peter Parker. The crane scene kind of made the ending a bit more comic-booky than the rest of the film, but overall the movie was good. They handled Peter Parker as Spiderman very well and his character was a lot more rich than what the previous series ever was.

Yeah, this is well worth seeing even if its by yourself.

I took two of my kids to see ASM today and it exceeded my expectations. I felt like Andrew Garfield did a really good job of portraying Peter Parker. Toby McGuire wasn't bad in the role, but his version just felt way tooooo dorky. Emma Stone was an awesome Gwen Stacy and can't wait to see how things pan out with her character if they follow the comic lore. Sally Field wasn't a bad Aunt May, but I think that Rosemary Harris was better in the role.

If I can ask for one actor to return from the first trilogy, it would be William Dafoe as Norman/Green Goblin. It's not so much that he can play the role, but he looks like the damn Green Goblin.

The mid credits spoiler, the mystery man almost sounded like
                          Spoiler
but I would love if they did go with the Green Goblin again for the second film.

I am not too sure how the choice was to have The Lizard as the main villain, but I am glad that they did since it was the direction they were heading in with in the first trilogy.

In the end, I really enjoyed the ASM a lot. I still do like the first trilogy too, really the first two films with Spider-Man 2 being in my top 5 of greatest comic book films. Spider-Man 3 tried to do way too much imo that screwed up the original trilogy. It fell into the Batman Forever and Batman & Robin curse of having too many villains while also trying to add many more supporting characters from the universe. I hope this reboot of ASM doesn't fall into that trap.

If Sony is going to make a Venom movie, I wonder if Flash Thompson will be the route that they take for the new Venom?

Gonna go see it tomorrow for $6 in the early afternoon, since I kind of grew up when Spiderman 1 came out I'll always imagine Tobey as spiderman but we'll see this go around.

Saw it today. Definitely like this Spider-man/Peter Parker better than the last movies. Only saw the first and third Spider-man movies before (I guess I skipped the best one from what I'm reading here) but I liked this one better.

                                My only gripe:
