Meh. He makes valid points, but I thought Garfield and Stone perfomances helped the movie surpass all but the second movie (from the original trilogy). They could have included the Lizard's family, which I'm aware of from the television show, to give the character more depth. Yet, I thought they did a great job with re-telling uncle Ben's death, including Gwen Stacy and gradually building the Spiderman persona. I'm really interested to see where they go from here and may catch the movie again.

I think it's Carnage.

Gwen Stacy dies in Ultimate Spider-Man #62. Before her death, she made peace with Mary Jane and assured her she never had romantic feelings for Peter. She considered him just as a friend. She is killed by Carnage, a vampiric monster made by the splicing of genetic material from Peter Parker, his father, and Dr. Curt Connors. Although Peter is not in the area when she dies, he still feels some responsibility for her death, as he allowed Dr. Connors to use his genetic material for experimentation. His guilt makes him decide to retire as Spider-Man for a while. Eventually, he takes up his hero identity when his responsibility for the innocent becomes too great to overlook.

In the Ultimate Marvel series, Carnage is a self-regenerating vampiric organism based on the symbiotic suit research of Richard Parker, created by Curt Conners and consists of his own DNA and that of Peter Parker, which at the time contained samples of the Venom symbiote. When Carnage was first introduced, he was a monster of instinct, with no intelligence or self awareness, with his only aim to feed on the DNA of others to stabilize himself.

After killing Gwen Stacy, this incarnation of Carnage has gone on to mimic her "essence" and now believes itself to be Gwen Stacy. Ultimate Carnage's appearance is based on Venom, Peter Parker, Curt Conners, and Gwen Stacy. In its monster form, Carnage resembles his original incarnation, such as its large eyes and fangs, as well as the Lizard's claws. In addition, the center of its body glows yellow, although after assuming the form of Gwen Stacy, Carnage loses this glow in its monster form. In its 'human form', Carnage resembles Peter's father Richard Parker in its first appearance, and Gwen in its second.

Fits in with the current story as that's exactly what they were on about and would answer Blzer's question about the bloodly handprint on the ledge. Obviously doesn't have the Venom deal but Eddie could inherit it from there. I'm pretty sure it won't be Scorpion or Rhino because they're in the game.

Apparently they had to do recuts late in the production. Not sure what the whole story is, but I noticed they dropped the mysterious parent's story from the advertising early on. Second half definitely missed the rest of that set-up IMO.

There is this one kid's YouTube channel (forget his name, but I'll post it if I find it) who does a few movie reviews, and he loved the movie so much but did not ever accept the fact that the movie which he expected to get from the trailers was not the film that was on screen. That, or he also didn't like how much the trailers gave away (and, in this case, how much it didn't even have in the actual film).

His explanation really did help me realize that, yes, this film was not edited right when it came out. The untold story definitely has still been left untold.

It pains me to see that both Raimi and Webb have been screwed by Sony Pictures with their own projects.

Sure, but the trailers certainly didn't make people think that. Not that I care either way, but that kid sure did.

Anyway, one thing I found strange about the trailers was that...

The end credits scene contained shots/dialogue in the trailer. Don't you normally keep that a mystery until the actual scene? Once I saw it, I was kind of ho-hum because I had heard it in the trailer.

Why must Sony **** with a good thing? Ugh.

This gives a pretty good idea of what was cut out.

I'm hoping they can work around Webb supposedly having to do another movie for Fox and that the movie was re-cut as much as it was because they wanted to save "the untold story" for the sequel and not for other reasons, but I doubt it.

Studies have shown that movie goers are more likely to see a movie if they know what's gonna happen in it.

I know...it's crazy, but the stats don't lie. This is why trailers have been revealing more and more in the past years.

And when you wonder why we have so many remakes and reboots, it pretty much answers some of the question.

Anyway, I pretty much stayed away from spider-man trailers for this very reason.

Possibly good news concerning Marc Webb returning to direct the sequel.

Webb reportedly owes Fox another film following his hit rom com (500) Days of Summer. They gave him a pass on his obligation to make another film for them so he could direct this summer's Spidey reboot. Now Webb's made a hit film and it's been three years since he's made a film for Fox.

The Los Angeles Times reports "Fox is considering giving its blessing to Webb on Spidey but in exchange would extract a two-picture commitment from Webb. It would be a steep price to pay for the filmmaker — most in-demand directors don’t like locking themselves up that long — but it would free him to return to one of Hollywood's biggest franchises."
