I got a question for you guys.
What tablet would you guys suggest that is good enough to compare to the iPad or might even be better.
I'm really liking the ipad mini. It is slick.
But I'm seeing other tablets out there that are capable of doing the same or even more. So any names you can throw out there for me to take a look at I'd appreciate it.Comment

Re: The Apple iPad
I purchased the Nexus 7 the other day and I think it's the better deal out of the two. The iPad mini is nice just because that's what I know to expect from Apple, but other than it being a nice device, it doesn't justify 350+ for me when the nexus 7 is 199/250 and it has the same kindle app as the iPad.I got a question for you guys.

I had an iPad 2 for a year and then picked up a Nexus 7 about 6 weeks ago. Use the Nexus daily, and now only use the iPad sparingly. The form factor is great.I got a question for you guys.

I have yet to set my hands on a mini yet, but I probably will this week as my friend picked one up yesterday. I'm just happening to like the customization Android provides a bit more right now.

Along with the mini Apple surprised everyone by announcing a revision to the iPad released in March, that's what people are referring to as the 4.

Re: The Apple iPad
Ordered a mini on the first day pre-orders were taken. Finally received it yesterday (black 16gb wifi). All I have to say is that even without the retina screen, this thing is really nice. For one thing after holding and using this for a day, my first gen ipad feels like a brick. However I have an ipad that I can hold in one hand...that in itself sold me on the mini.Comment

Re: The Apple iPad
It depends on what you'll use it for. Right now, you can go out and get a 16GB ipad 4 for $499, or get an Apple refurbished 32GB ipad 3 for $469. There's no a huge difference in the two for average use really, and both have the retina screen. The ipad 2 is also still capable, as it is basically what the mini is. You can find people dumping them cheap so they can get a newer one.
I personally feel that 16GB's is too small, but I love apps, and some games take up a gig. I also don't like buying cases or screen protectors, but that's me.
I'm curious if Apple will even be able to do it for the next revision. Fitting a retina display, better battery, and the A5X/A6X inside the same form for the same price could be tough. They had to compromise on the thickness a bit just to get the ipad 3 to retina. Maybe they just don't update the mini until they can do it.
I wonder how much they cut their profit margin on the mini. I was surprised to find a dinky little iphone 5 5W charger in the box, while it can utilize the new ipad 4 12W charger, or even the previous 10W ipad charger.Last edited by bkfount; 11-04-2012, 09:57 AM.Comment

Thinking about investing on a tablet...
Why makes the IPad different than all the other tablets out there?
For example, the Galaxy 10 or the Microsoft surface looks amazing .. what makes the IPad superior to those.
Thanks in advance... just trying to get something for Christmas

Simple answer, tablet specific apps. Something Android and Microsoft are way behind on.Comment

It isn't. It's all about preference. I have owned iPad, iPad 2, nexus 7 and they all perform well. I like the Nexus 7 over all because it was the cheapest and everything I did on my iPad I can do on the nexus. I think web browsing and the cameras are the upside of the iPad mini other than that everything seems even. The web browsing seems to be getting better now that I've switched from chrome to an aosp browser.Thinking about investing on a tablet...

Re: The Apple iPad
Google Says 700,000 Applications Available for Android. That means Google has matched Apple in the number of games, productivity tools and other programs that are usable on handheld electronics, including tablets and smartphones

I think the point trying to be made there is there are more iPad specific apps than Android tablet specific apps.
Kind of a stretch IMO, no pun intended. Just an evolution of the 'more apps' argument now that the Play store has caught up.
Personally I use maybe a dozen apps regularly on my iPad/Nexus, don't care as much about the hundreds of thousands of others.

Honestly, that's complete PR junk.Google Says 700,000 Applications Available for Android. That means Google has matched Apple in the number of games, productivity tools and other programs that are usable on handheld electronics, including tablets and smartphones

700k apps is an utterly worthless and arbitrary number to tout, as both ecosystems have tons of junk apps. What matters more is the quality of apps, and where developers go first, which iOS just dominates the competition. I have used an ipad and an android phone for years, and all the big apps/games come out on ios first. I can't think of one app that blew up into a big deal with friends that came from android.
Then there's the fragmentation problem. Android phones, google tablets, and amazon tablets all run different things due to the difference in hardware. SongPop was a big deal for a few weeks, and it was never available in the amazon market, while the kindle fire is probably the leading android tablet.
Android still has plenty of distance to catch up to ios, especially with tablet specific apps.Last edited by bkfount; 11-05-2012, 03:44 PM.Comment
