Yeah, well in these dorms that's definitely not the case. People just like "bigger". And I have to be honest, I can see a lot more of what's going on with my 23" screen in HD than I can with a 46" screen in SD.

I would like no more than $100 definitely, but if I can get under $60 that would be ideal.

I've actually thought of this, only I don't have that much cash on me and I don't want to put this on a card.

Why wouldnt you want to put it on a card? Its only for a couple of days. Is it because your mom checks your bill?

I would feel too guilty doing that.

Put an ad on craigslist, say you want to borrow a 46 inch LCD for the super bowl. Lots of ppl won't be using their tvs. Pay 'em $60 or something. Kind of a hassle though, I hate being in charge of parties.

Meh, you're getting the gist of it. I just mostly don't want to oblige myself to something in case the TV gets messed up and I'll have to end up paying full charges for something that I wasn't prepared to pay for. I figure as long as I have that kind of cash on me, something like that would be okay (well not okay, but at least assuring).

This is also a possibility, but I can't help but feel anyone would really be too trusting with that. It takes a lot to get it up to the seventh floor of a dorm, and they would have to do a lot of packaging and such just to make it happen. Plus, I plan on doing a lot of picture adjustments and such to make sure the TV is optimal with what I feel would be the best settings.

Maybe it's just too late for me to be thinking up stuff like this and I should just suck it up, bite the bullet, and either commit with what I have or go with another party. TV rental advice is still good to hear about, though.

Sounds like you need to just buy yourself a bigger tv. Don't see how you can be such a videophile and have a 23" TV

Blame the mother. I had looked into some good 36" screens two years ago when I was doing research, and she wouldn't let me get anything else.

"23 inches is already big enough." (that's what she said)

"It's way too expensive." (it's my money)

"You should be spending your money on other things." (like the Spongebob pillow grandma got me?)

"You're living in a dorm, people will steal it." (something tells me this not only won't happen, but can't)

"You should be spending your time outside anyway." (because the size of the TV will change the amount of time I spend in front of it)

But the one that makes the most sense (and it really does)...

"This is a good size for now, and when you're living on your own they'll be getting better and the prices will go down. Maybe then you can look into bigger TV's."

That's my plan as of now, so I'm just going to stick with the 23" to own for now. I would like to rent a bigger one for the Super Bowl though (and maybe House and 24 the next day).

You could step all over the screen and still return it to costco. Heck, you dont even need the box to return it.

Do you personally know the people with the big tv? If so, I don't see how they would complain about you taking an antenna and setting it up.

I wouldn't rent a tv. Just too many unknown variables that could go wrong.

Now renting a projector. That would be the ticket.

                    And much easier to transport.

How do you do it? I bought my now ancient Panasonic HDTV (tube-square-black bar top & bottom for HD programs) back in March of 2002 and had some success getting an HD broadcast with a small indoor UHF antennae, but I was amazed when I saw the 2004 SuperBowl in HD without a hitch.

Well my TV also has a built-in tuner, but come about October of last year it seems they've eliminated that sort of way to get digital stations.

I guess I get the luck of the draw by being eleven stories up in my dorm with nothing obstructing my antenna. I went to http://www.antennaweb.org to figure out where the stations are located so that I could point my antenna in the right direction and I got great strength with it.

Completely depends on where you live and if you have a clear path to the signal. I get about 16 OTA HD channels (Columbia, SC)...my parents get none (Chester, SC).

I think a 23" TV is plenty big enough for a dorm. You're not going to be sitting far enough away to warrant a larger TV, IMO.

BTW, Blzer, I have a 23" HDTV, as well (a Samsung).
