We're slowly but surely getting into the next golden age of TV. The 2000's had the greatest shows ever, in my opinion, with The Wire, The Sopranos, Deadwood, The Shield, Rome, Band of Brothers, it was a new age of TV, thanks to HBO, in large part.

Ever since those shows ended, there's been a void that's slowly getting filled with great shows like Mad Men. True Blood is a lot of fun to watch, so is Justified. Sons of Anarchy gets on my nerves mostly, since it's a massive missed opportunity given how good the cast is and they throw in these Walker Texas Ranger action sequences and cliched crap with the writing. Treme was excellent in its first season, lets hope HBO gives it the Wire treatment and ignores low ratings to tell a story. The Pacific was excellent, really enjoyed that, especially the second half of the series. Now we have Boardwalk Empire coming up, which most people are already sold on just by the trailers and I don't blame them.

I cannot wait to see this show tonight, shame it's the same night as the ManningBowl. I might have to catch the replay. They put together a great cast, they have great talent in the writing/directing slots, this is going to be very special. With how big of a hit True Blood is, Boardwalk Empire has gotten a LOT of exposure. This should be a huge hit, too. Those two shows could very well make HBO bigger than it's ever been.

HBO is awesome, plain and simple.

I'll watch the pilot of any new HBO show, just because its from HBO.

OK...we watched all but the first nine minutes...can anyone give a full synopsis of the whole premiere? We think we got the gist of it, but my wife [mostly, LOL] missed a lot. Just like 'The Sopranos', so many details are in the dialogue bits, however brief, I know we BOTH missed things.

However, the one thing she didn't miss, was the typical gratuitious, and the violence against women, which stick out like brightly colored kites on a windy day to her.

Overall, we'll watch again. I greatly enjoyed it, and once someone can explain the nuances to the misses, she'll be on board as well.

I'm on the fence, it was just kind of meh to me. I didn't see anything really superlative, but I did think quite a bit of it was contrived and hackneyed.

I liked it. They did a very nice job with the sets. I will have to watch it again because I want to get all the characters down again and try to figure out exactly why the Italian guy was whacked at the end.

It was a nice start. Nothing spectacular but the first episode of an HBO series rarely is. They start off good and get great as the season progresses.

Pay attention to the convo between Jimmy and Al Capone when they introduce themselves. Capone tells Jimmy that Carlisimo (the Italian guy) doesnt want them to get involved with the liquor business and that he is happy just running whore houses. Torrio (the guy who played Butchie in the Sopranos) and Capone have Calisimo whacked so that they can go ahead with bootlegging. In real life it was one of the first moves in Capone's rise to power.
