Just stumbled upon this thread, but I love this show. I don't watch a lot of TV shows, but this is one that has had me gripped since the first ep. I can't wait til the next season!

Re: Boardwalk Empire
Boardwalk Empire kicked off at the beginning of Prohibition in January 1920, and advanced only a few months as evidenced by Warren G Harding's victory in the 1920 presidential election.
Capone became a big time gangster much earlier then that. In fact, he had spent 8 years in jail by 1939, and had no clout after that.SpoilerSeverely injured from an assassination attempt Johnny Torrio handed the business over to Capone in 1925 and returned to Italy.Comment

Re: Boardwalk Empire
Maybe it was that early that became a "boss" type. But he wasn't the end all-be all of gangsters until he was in his 30's-40's. The show can't realistically get to that era.Comment

Re: Boardwalk Empire
Uh, what? Capone's power vanished once he was in Alcatraz and by the time he got out his mind was so ate up with syphilis that he barely knew who he was. Capone's power was really between '24 and '32 when he was transferred to Alcatraz and replaced by Frank Nitti.Comment

Re: Boardwalk Empire
I don't know the actual time period, since I didn't properly research it, but I'm going off of Capone being like 20 years old right now on the show (since that's what he said he was in his first scene). I just figured, as young as he is, he was just there for novelty purposes and they couldn't actually explore his rise to power.
So you're saying they realistically could follow Capone's story, at least the rise of Capone? Because that adds a whole new level of awesome to this show if they can.Comment

Re: Boardwalk Empire
Boss Capone was just a lot younger than I figured. He's currently 20 in Boardwalk Empire (portrayed by a 35 year old actor), only 25 when he took over for Torrio, and only 31 when he did his 8 year confinement stretch.Comment

Re: Boardwalk Empire
Wow, I thought the same thing you did. Graham looks a hell of a lot younger than he actually is. I guess that's good though, since he'll be able to play young/old Capone both.Comment

Re: Boardwalk Empire
Right, and I think Capone just looked a little older than he was:

Capone at age 20.

Capone at age 25.
At any age Capone was scary-a very homely man.Comment

Re: Boardwalk Empire
They need to give him some eyebrow makeup to make them ridiculous-looking. Then he'd look a little better. Still a decent likeness, that scene where he was trying on suits with Jimmy was a cool Capone scene.Comment

Re: Boardwalk Empire
Good find-great news to see Harrow upgraded to regular. Interesting that this guy (Jack Huston) is the nephew of Angela Huston and the grandson of the late John Huston.More of this dude coming next season;http://www.deadline.com/2010/12/jack...rdwalk-empire/

Re: Boardwalk Empire
Awesome character and Huston does well with it.
On a sidenote, I'm really looking forward to David Chase's movie.Comment

Re: Boardwalk Empire
Is that the one about early Hollywood? I remember reading about it a while back. If it's early Hollywood or music related, anything history related, David Chase is a good guy for the job. These are areas that are obviously very close to his heart.Comment
