Re: Game of Thrones (HBO Sunday nights @ 9PM EST)
I will have to give the the first episode another watch to get all the names and what each character position on the show. I can already tell there is going to be a ton of characters.Comment

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO Sunday nights @ 9PM EST)
HBO renews Game of Thrones for 2nd season.
The premiere grossed 4.2 Million viewers Sunday night (before DVR ratings)."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO Sunday nights @ 9PM EST)
And Martin himself has a hard time keeping track. I'm absolutely terrible in remembering names and for some reason, it'll take me a while to distinguish two characters from each other on television. I've looked at the cast photos and already, I can see myself confusing one character with another during scenes.
Game of Thrones will definitely test your memory and facial recognition."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Reading a New Yorker article about Martin and his story and it mentions that there are over one thousand characters named in the book series.

Dunno if anyone has posted this yet, but HBO does have a viewer's guide, complete with family trees, maps, and relevant history (in the appendix). Worth checking out.

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO Sunday nights @ 9PM EST)
The map is phenomenal to have on the HBO site. I read the first book on my iPhone so the map was distorted when trying to zoom in. There are quite a few things mentioned on positioning of certain houses that I wanted to see vs. imagining."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace
