LOL-no it was at Bainbridge Naval Training Center in Maryland back in the 60's. Still with inflation that price is still around $2.20 today.

I'll just wait til they hit the $2 theater if it's something that MUST be seen on a big screen. I'll probably make an exception for Iron Man 2 though.

For some going to the movie is an experience, just like going to the fair. So they'll pay whatever the admission fee is and for the ripoff concessions.

With few exceptions, like mentioned above, I'll wait for it to come out on blu ray. Nothing like being able to pause the movie to go get some food or take a whiz.

This isn't that bad an idea, but I don't think it happens anytime soon. As Cebby pointed out, revenue was at its highest this year. Hollywood is experiencing a nice boom.

We have to think of Hollywood like the baseball team opening a new stadium. They don't care if less people attend (by having less seats), so long as the people that do pay the higher prices to attend.

Meh, i'll keep going to the pre 12pm showings that are 6 dollars as I've always done. Especially since the theater is usually empty for the first shows.

And i'll never watch a 3d movie. ever.

I get what you and Cebby are saying, and I have done zero research to prove my point, but is revenue up mainly because ticket prices are up? I mean, if I sold 1,000 widgets at 5 bucks a pop in 2000 and in 2009 I sold 500 widgets at 11 bucks a pop, I have more revenue, but sales are down.

Ticket sales have been dropping for decades.

With home video people go to the movies less, and now with Blu-Ray there isn't even a big difference between the theater and home.

Hollywood is constantly breaking records at the box office and my guess is they are with rentals and sales too.

The demise of movies will either take something to the effect of a major event where filmmaking becomes impossible or a medium comes out that is so far superior to movies that they become marginalized (basically some sort of interactive game/movie hybrid).

LOL, dwindling support so they raise prices. Brilliant! But considering the views of most of the folks who run Hollywood it's pretty typical that they'd support such stupidity and actually believe it would help turn things around instead of make things worse.

There's been talk (though just from fans not the studios) that the studios may use the VOD model concurrent with the theatrical model. So let's say a movie comes out on a Tuesday the VOD of said movie would come out the next Tuesday with a price point in the 10-15 dollar range.

                        It makes some sense IMO.

That's cool, but it takes away another place to go. Sooner or later we'll have no need to leave home. I like going to the movies, but I don't like the prices. Not to mention when you buy online, you have to pay convenience fees on each ticket you buy.

I have never found it convinent to spend more money. I hate going to the movies. Everyone has their cell phones etc..... Just want to watch the damn movie that I just paid $30 to see.

I have been to 4 movies in the past two years and only paid to see 1.

I think what Scooby is saying, and I 100% agree, is I don't like going to the movies that often either, but it's nice to have the option. Everything is going online and soon we'll all just be tubs of lard connected to the net who never leave the house.
