It does seem backwards, but I think sometimes we forget that we're the tech savvy group here that has access to movies that are in theaters without ever attending the theater.
We're the minority. Though sales are down, I'd bet that most of those sales are to people like us. That doesn't hurt Hollywood. I'm sure I read somewhere (wish I could find it) that sales amongst a particular viewing group are actually up and that group consists of the same people that always watch movies in the theatre.
Eventually, Hollywood will have to get hip to it as I'm sure the tech savvy is growing. But by that time Hollywood will have figured out how to use the internet to their advantage.
I can assure you one thing: Hollywood will not let happen to film what has happened to music. They see everything that is happening. You wouldn't have sites like Hulu.com if they weren't trying to appease the television internet crowd. Eventually, they'll find a way to appease the internet movie watching crowd.
