It does seem backwards, but I think sometimes we forget that we're the tech savvy group here that has access to movies that are in theaters without ever attending the theater.

We're the minority. Though sales are down, I'd bet that most of those sales are to people like us. That doesn't hurt Hollywood. I'm sure I read somewhere (wish I could find it) that sales amongst a particular viewing group are actually up and that group consists of the same people that always watch movies in the theatre.

Eventually, Hollywood will have to get hip to it as I'm sure the tech savvy is growing. But by that time Hollywood will have figured out how to use the internet to their advantage.

I can assure you one thing: Hollywood will not let happen to film what has happened to music. They see everything that is happening. You wouldn't have sites like Hulu.com if they weren't trying to appease the television internet crowd. Eventually, they'll find a way to appease the internet movie watching crowd.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer

Again, Hollywood broke the record for box office money last year in the middle of one of the worst economic years in the last 70 years.

I think they have a better handle on their industry than you do.

Actually it's quite common for the industry to get stronger in lean economic times simply because a night out at the movies is still a somewhat cheap night out for the family compared to many other things despite rising ticket prices.

I don't think Hollywood is overly concerned with what happened to the music industry happening to them. Most people going to the theater do it for a nite out for social purposes and to get out more than the desire to see a particular film and it will always have that attraction. People downloading music don't really lose out on any experience by not buying the CD instead.

It doesn't make a difference either way, they are making more money than they have in years and that's all that really matters.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)
