Danger Mouse did Tighten Up, otherwise its all Dan Auerbach self production.

Nice. Sometimes I miss that old muddy production of Thickfreakness. Rubber Factory had it too, but that sounds a bit cleaner than the previous album.

Pretty much, this. Just first heard of Blakroc when I youtubed the song in the OP's post and listened to the song with Mos Def, which I thought was awesome. Downloaded the whole disk off I tunes yesterday and like it a lot. I prefer the Black Keys on their own, but this will be in rotation for a while now.

Yeah, this will be a day one pick up for me as well. Already knew about it, but still looking forward to it. This and the new Godsmack.

I preordered through the Black Keys. Crossing my fingers I ordered early enough to get the lithograph signed by the guys. Downloaded Tighten Up and Next Girl, too. Straight to the iPod - so badass.

Just picked this up this past weekend (Keep it Hid) and wow, completely impressed. A few songs are very Black Keys-ish, but for the most part the sound is very different and just as good. A good mix of pace between all of the songs; fast and slow. This dude just can't do any wrong from what I have heard so far.

Man, Just listened through the whole album for the first time and man, this album is crazy. Some stuff similar to whats on Keep it Hid, some typical BK stuff, some new sounding stuff. All in All this album will blow up man if the right amount of people just hear it.

Did you find it leaked somewhere? Just make sure you buy it when it actually drops. Support this band by paying for their music.

I don't know man, I kind of like how these guys are just one of those semi-hidden gem of a band. Obviously a ton of people already know about them, but they're not your typical Nickel Back that gets played every hour on the radio....it just seems like that kind of exposure never bodes well for the quality of music for the majority of bands. My reasons are selfish of course, but I like where they are at. I'd prefer to see them in a smaller venue if they ever come to Houston.

A band can still get mainstream attention and produce good music. Just because a band hits mainstream doesn't mean they instantly suck. It seems like the bands that go from small/indie labels to major labels don't really change their style drastically (if at all), at least the bands I've followed.

Can't agree. Kings of Leon got a lot of exposure and the last few albums their sound changed drastically from a southern punk sound to arena rock.

Anyway, the Keys don't really have a sound that fits in with the mainstream styles. At least now anyway. Even working with Danger Mouse didn't really blow them up to massive levels.

Simply because their styles change (and over the course of several albums isn't a major stretch) doesn't mean they sell out. Most bands grow and change their styles over time. The Black Keys themselves have done it. Hitting mainstream doesn't change that fact and I wouldn't consider KoL sell-outs for changing their style because I wouldn't lump them in with the Nickelbacks, Shinedowns, etc of the mainstream segment that many bands fall into. Many bands have managed to attract some level of mainstream attention and still produce good music. Prime examples would be The White Stripes and Modest Mouse.

I think The Black Keys has a bigger fan base than people realize.

It just depends on the band. Some bands make a hit, get some radio play and then spend the rest of their careers trying to copy that. Your Nickelbacks, etc. Then you have bands who get that exposure, deal with it, but go on as if nothing changed, but they just play larger venues and go from an opening act to a headliner (Foo Fighters, etc.).

It just sucks when you see bands that go from making and experimenting with music for the love of making music to making music for the sake of making money or trying just to make another hit. The Black Key's don't seem like the latter band.

Probably, but someone who gets all of their exposure from their local alt-rock radio station probably hasn't heard of them or hears of them very irregularly.

As I said before, my motives for them not blowing up are almost completely selfish. I'd much prefer to see them play the House of Blues or some other smaller, more intimate venue than filling up an arena. Some things are so good, you want to keep them to yourself...these guys are one of those things, IMO.

It seems like The Black Keys has become one of the bigger alt-rock bands in the past couple of years and I can't speak for all alt-rock/indie radio stations, but my local one plays one or two of their songs every day.

I don't see the band playing arenas anytime soon, anyway.
