This album feels more funk than blues. Just my feel from a good listen.

The song and video are both great. Will be getting this May 18th for sure.

          Whole album is streaming here:

Packed with great songs and devoid of throwaways, Brothers is the sixth album by the duo of singer-guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney. Like its predecessors, The Black Keys' new album is consistently strong stuff, though this one feels a bit tamer, with more of an R&B influence. Hear the album in its entirety here until its release on May 18.

You can listen to the whole thing or choose songs individually.

Lucky man. They got their whole tour going, but for some reason when they come here they are opening for Kings of Leon, who I'm not a huge fan of. Considering buying tickets and leaving after they play their set.

Don't know how you possibly get that from this cd. I think you need to listen to some Parliment and then this and try to still say this sounds anything like funk.

I'm disappointed from my first listen honestly. They have really shed the sound that made them so great. Now they are not only quite mellow, but a bit psychedelic as well. They just don't sound anything like the Black Keys of old. If you weren't overly fond of their "Attack and Release" cd, you probably will be even less fond of this one. Just initial impressions, which are usually the harshest. This cd just didn't pump me up like "Rubber Factory" or "Thickfreakness", not even close. Not that too many cds ever will though.

I liked the direction Attack & Release set for the guys because I felt Magic Potion showed they were starting to mine too much of the same ground they had been mining.

I have the two first Funkadelic albums breh. Not saying Brothers is like that. Just saying they pulled from more than just blues for the album.

Yeah, I can understand that definately. After a couple more listens, I've started to like the cd more. I do miss the heavy guitars though. Overall I guess I would give this 4 out of 5. It's still well written and better than most music out there. Plus not really fair to the guys to base an opinion off two previous gems that may never be topped.

There is a lot of the same feeling in this record that there was in Auerbachs solo album Keep it Hid. For me, it doesn't seem like that big of a jump because I didn't go from Attack and Release to this. I had keep it hid in the middle. Overall I think its the same formula they have been using, its just a little different in the middle.

They have the openers and closers in Everlasting light and These Days, you have your sons of Anarchy soundtrack songs in Next Girl and Shes Long gone, you have your songs that you love and your friends could care less about in Unknown Brother and Tighten Up, and then you have the middle ground songs which will be hit and miss with you. Seems like a Keys album to me lol.

I will say though that they used to have those Chulahoma type songs, the real gritty ones like on Thickfreakness AND Rubber Factory that are missing. No Junior Kimbrough on this album which I wish there would have been 1 new one like Everywhere I go, but nonetheless I am def. digging Brothers!

Nobody talking about this? I've listened to it twice in a row. There are some epic tracks on here: Next Girl, Howlin' For You, Ten Cent Pistol, Sinister Kid, and Unknown Brother. I'm loving this album.
