This movie is a fun ride. A really fun ride that covers up the teen relationship drama that may make some viewers not enjoy the film.

However, if you played video games, watched any, even if only a second, anime or a film packed with special effects, you will enjoy the amount of effort thrown into this film through special effects alone.

Scott Pilgrim takes everything you have ever seen in an action film and mashes it up into one two hour block of reel. The entire thing is like a comic book come to life - and really, people say this all the time, but this film is exactly a comic book in motion.

The story is typical boy meets girl, boy fights for girl, boy loses girl, boy wins girl back. But the rest makes it an enjoyable retelling of a popular tale.

The only major drawback is the Academy Awards likely overlooking this films amazing aesthetic and not handing film editors Jonathan Amos and Paul Machliss a nomination for Best Film Editing.

This film flopped hard in the BO.

Budget of $60 MM and it turned in just over $10 MM on its opening weekend. That is horrible.

This summer is not being kind to a lot of films.

Like Tendrils said, this is probably going to be a word of mouth film, but $10 MM is not enough word of mouth to boost sales. The film is going to need a strong performance in the foreign markets to recover the losses.

Either way, I think this proves that Michael Cera just isn't a leading man yet and I'm not exactly sure why that is the case, but I imagine that he is playing too small a demographic in this film.

There's no one genre it can confine itself in and the trailers didn't really push it in any direction - its a romantic, video game and indie music culture, comedy, kung fu movie and they decided to not focus the trailers on any one of those things specifically. Not to mention that aside from the comic book fans, there's really nobody else that can comprehend what this film is about before going to see it.

Yes the trailer probably put off a lot of folks. Some of the content of the trailer makes me think of the Speed Racer movie and well, that's a bad thing.

Thinking about seeing this, never read the comics though. Is it similiar to Kick ***? It may be a bad movie to compare it to.

It's got that same comic book feel.

I'd say if you even liked KA, you'd LOVE this.

I'm completely shocked a VIDEO GAME message board wouldn't be enjoying this more. There's homage to games all over the place.

Kick-A** and Scott Pilgrim are both very much "comic book" movies, but that's about all they share in common. KA relied on more of the political incorrectness/Tex Avery styles of violence and dark humor for its comedy and its action sequences were the same way. KA also had more social commentary running around than Scott Pilgrim does.

SP on the other hand is much more stylish. Its comedy is more subtle and dry and the whole series plays up indie music scene/hipsters in a fun way. There's popular culture references everywhere, but most of them probably would/will go unnoticed because of how obscure they really are. The movie itself is very much the same way with its 8bit/midi soundtrack samples and sound effects for the action sequences are pulled straight from video game fighters. I hate to be using one sentence to describe this movie but it is essentially a music video, video game, anime, comic book all put into motion.

I saw it last night and I really liked it alot.

Has really silly vibe about it that was refreshing.
