Marshall has been addicted to multiple drugs in his life, though.

My bad. I remember reading on here that Lil Wayne was supposedly addicted to 'The Soup' which had supposedly messed up his vocal cords and i assumed that it was something like cough medicine or something like that? So Em was addicted to prescription meds like sleeping pills etc wasn't he?

Yup. Overdosed and almost died around Christmas '07, everyone thought he'd get help then but he basically relapsed and started taking drugs again. He's finally clean though, for now.

That whole episode of Letterman was awesome. I had it on DVR and watched it last night. The top 10 was pretty funny with Em's "advice to children", Jay had a funny interview with Letterman and 3 songs by Jay and Em on the roof.

Lil Wayne was/is addicted to a medication which was essentially cough syrup, as well as weed, which he's got busted for.

and Em he was an alcoholic and just addicted to a bunch of drugs and then "sobered up' in 02. only to relapse (irony) and become addicted to sleeping pills and was quoted saying at its peak he contemplated suicide. then he went throught recovery (irony) and is now the man we have today

Lemme just say that the lyrics Eminem drops on Recovery should be argued the best in the history of rap.

I don't like talking about "best", because it invites a lot of semantics, but I do think this is a phenomenal album in terms of flow, lyrics and songwriting. I think I've listened to it more than any rap ablum since the Slim Shady LP. Not very strong beats, arguably not great hooks, but the "rap" part of it is top notch, and that's what really matters to me for hip hop as long as the beats aren't terrible. The instrumental aspect is never going to compare to the other stuff I listen to anyway, so I'm generally ready to give a pass on mediocre beats.

Right now this is my favorite rap album. I might reevaluate when I get some time to reflect on it in a few months.

Pretty much right there with you. I wish the beats were better, because that would make this album even better. But yeah ... haven't stopped listening to this album yet. I'll deviate away for a day at most, then go right back to it.

Some cuts one the album are decent. I just haven't ever been able to listen to Em for long without becoming extremely annoyed. I respect the lyrical skills but his tone and delivery, over time, make me want to strangle him to death.
