Re: Dear Eminem, Please oh please...
My Official Recovery Review
Cold Wind Blows: Starts off raw, sort of like his graphic intros. I dig the “duh nuh nuh” voice beat to start the song. Overall pretty good song and legit hook. If I wouldn’t have seen who did this album, I would know who it was right away because it sounds like a classic Em song.
Talkin’ 2 Myself: Right away when the beat started and he was talking, I knew it was going to be a good song. Now after hearing it numerous times, it’s one of my favorites on the album, and I love the double chorus with Kobe and Em. This is where he starts bashing Relapse, and I love that, he does owe it to us. Catchy song in general, the being on drugs during Encore, and Relapse flushing ‘em out, is one of my favorite lines in this whole album.
On Fire: The beginning talking about critics and what not I liked, but as the song got going I didn’t think too much of the song. In my opinion, it is not one of his better songs on the album, the whole “your on fire” hook doesn’t draw me in.
Won’t Back Down: So as I’m reading down the song list as I’m unwrapping the CD, I come to this song and think, ok it’s with Pink, it’s gotta be a little laid back and smooth. As On Fire finishes, and the guitar and drum beat start, I thought, ‘you know Pink is edgy and so is Slim’, and that it was. Really good song, the rapping in the rockish music is legit. Although when the song turns down, and he says something like turn me back up or whatever, at first I thought my CD was scratched and I freaked out.
WTP: Great beat. Honestly, that’s about all I have to say about this song. The first verse was tough, but I’m thinking the whole time what WTP stood for. (I always thought it was warning track power) But I guess it was just something to throw in there, the Stephan Marbury of rap line made me think. So once I found out what WTP stood for and the song wrapped up, I just sat there thinking ‘what the f***?!’
Going Through Changes: Good change of pace from the last song, at least it didn’t leave me thinking ‘what the ph***’ (maybe that’s what WTP stands for, me and Em were thinking alike) Title and subject are very fitting to the album.
Not Afraid: I mean seriously, who doesn’t like this song, great single. This could go down with one of Em’s best singles, maybe, maybe not. But amazing song, when I heard this when it was released as a single, it just got me jacked for the album. Of course the ‘that last Relapse CD was, eh’ line made me smile. *If you haven’t seen the music video, definitely watch it*
Seduction: ?...not really sure. Good song if this wasn’t his big comeback album. Kind of irrelevant to the album, unless it’s a subliminal message saying he’s trying to re-seduce us to being his fans.
No Love: First thought, ‘oh boy, not someone stealing Em’s spotlight.’ Then I hear the ‘f*** the world’ from Lil Wayne, and think this could be a sequel to Drop the World, and I loved that song. It might just be I would rather see Em steal someone else’s spotlight, than someone steal his. Love the beat and the background song. One of the better songs on Recovery. Plus, the ‘been to hell and back, I can show you vouchers’ line is awesome.
Space Bound: Started off with another change of pace, and it fit in really good here. I didn’t get the title at first but after hearing it I completely understand. Good song, but with what Em is giving us on this album, it doesn’t fall towards the top.
Cinderella Man: The stomping/clapping beat=sick. Definitely one of my favorite songs on Recovery, amazing hook, love the ‘lost his Nike shoe’ part. Not much to say besides that it’s awesome.
25 to Life: Another change of pace here, but as the track gets going, we get our Eminem we love. This song grew on me quick and one of my favorites as well.
So Bad: The white trash stuff is stupid, but as soon as I hear the ‘chicka chicka’ I knew we had Slim back. Really like the hook, and I mean really like it. Pretty good song.
Almost Famous: Once again, thought we had a slower song, but the ‘Slim Rothlisberger’ did it in. I knew this was a classic song. The hook is pretty fitting.
Love the Way You Lie: First thought, who likes being lied to?, let alone, loving being lied to? apparently Rihanna. But for real, awesome beat, really really good song with Rihanna. Could be the most underrated song on this stacked album.
Your Never Over: I was waiting for this song the whole album. I knew he was going to throw a tribute to Proof sometime, and of course had to wait until the end of the album. Great hook and good beat, just love a call out to Proof any day.
Untitled: Any time Slim just goes off on a rhyming binge it’s legit, and this was nothing less. Saw it on the end of the album and had no idea what it was going to being, hearing no skits I thought this might be one, but definitely not. Pretty decent.
Recap: Not Afraid, Talkin’ 2 Myself, No Love, and Love the Way You Lie are definitely four of the best songs on the album. With the good we have the bad, On Fire, WTP, and Seduction. I think this is it, the real Slim Shady is back!!! This is definitely not the last we have heard from Marshall. However I am getting scared that this is getting to be the end for him. With rumors circulating already back in 2005, about him putting out an album entitled The Funeral (eventually putting out Curtain Call), I think that it is only time that he does put out The Funeral, and steps back into more producing and occasionally song appearances like what Dre does now. However, we all know the Em loves to shock and surprise us, so putting out an album about reincarnation or something, but who knows. For now, just hoping Em keeps it up and keeps us happy. So when it’s all said and done, I rank this as his 3rd best album ever, and give it a solid 8.5 out of 10, this being based off what I expected out of Recovery/Relapse 2, and his past works.St. Louis Cardinals | Milwaukee Bucks | Los Angeles Rams

Re: Dear Eminem, Please oh please...
I would have to give this one a 8.5 too if I had to be completely honest because lyrically its a great one imo, but production wise it could have been better. Especially when you compare it to his previous albums.
Two tracks that people don't seem to care for WTP and Seduction I actually really liked. The beat for Seduction was great to me loved it as soon as I heard it. And WTP grew on me once I started learning the lyrics its definitely the odd man out in comparison to everything else on the album tho...
I'm hoping his next album is either produced by Dre or he does it by himself like on Eminem Show. His hooks and overall song structure sounds a lot better when he works either by himself or people he's comfortable with. That's what I think is missing on this album and its keeping it from being another MMLP or TES..Comment

Re: Dear Eminem, Please oh please...
Went from liking this album to loving it. It's not a perfect unity of music, lyrics and production like his two or three classic albums, but it has other things going for it. It's honest, clever, emotional and versatile. There are more producers from different places than a typical Em album, so some of the tracks don't flow together as part of a whole. There are fewer collaborations than his other albums, but I think the guests all do some great work on here.
The biggest weakness of the album is that it is strong melodically, but weak rhythmically. To my percussion loving ears, there is no single "beat" on here that has the strong "boom/pap" that you can get from a great Dre, Kanye or Neptunes track. On the other hand, there is a nice use of chords and melodies throughout a lot of the tracks, which brings across the redemptive phoenix from the ashes theme of the album.
After several listens, I have to say this is definitely one of his strongest efforts lyrically. He doesn't set out to tell stories with the depth of "Stan" or "Kim", but I think he hits the goals he set for each track, be it mourning over Proof, apologizing for his own actions, or just having fun with some old fashioned rapper bravado. Not a whole lot of places you can find this kind of flow, wordplay, storytelling, honesty and punchlines.
It's not perfect, but I love it. Right now, probably my 2nd favorite Em album taken as a whole.Comment

Dunno if it's been posted, but here's a banger of a bonus track (produced by Just Blaze):

Re: Dear Eminem, Please oh please...
Complete random Eminem observation.....
I've been watching a lot of the promotional apperances Eminem has been doing the past month and the guy never smiles. He always look angry/"hard". He was on Letterman doing the Top 10 List and all he could do at the end was a little smirk. I know this is nothig new since this is the way he has acted since the 2nd album came out.Comment
