Re: Hard Rock fans, help me out!
It's nowhere near new, but to me the album that sounds most like Metallica in their younger days is "Vulgar Display of Power" by Pantera. Pantera used to be a commercial rock band and moved to a heavier thrash sound. "Vulgar" was a transitional album for them. It reminds me a lot of Metallica when they first got Jason Newsted right before Justice came out.PSN: JISTIC_OS

Not a new band, but certainly mostly unknown in the US, Edguy's more of a metal band who's new stuff has been trending towards the hard rock genre, it maybe worth a look for you:

Re: Hard Rock fans, help me out!
Nobody can recreate Metallica but Trivium is pretty good. The album entitled "Crusade" sounds more like Metallica than any of the others. Also, The Sword (GH II, 'Freya') and Mastodon both used to or still tour with Metallica. I met the drummer of Mastodon, cool as hell and signed my ticket!
Dethklok (Metalocalypse), but they kinda growl.Btw, I'm a huge 'Tallica fan.

Re: Hard Rock fans, help me out!
See, I have a problem listening to Vol. 1 after getting Vol. 2. I love Vol. 1 before Vol. 2 was released, but after it was released, Vol. 1 just felt very unfinished. Vol. 2 is a masterpiece to me.
And we're not even mentioning Hurt's latest CD, Goodbye to Machine. Again, not as good as Vol. 2, but a nice change of pace from the first two albums. If nothing else, it's worth the purchase just for the hidden song lolCo-Commish of the OS Vets I & II

Re: Hard Rock fans, help me out!
I love "Flowers", such a twisted/funny song, lol. This is why I love all of the rock threads here on OS; they all end up having Hurt talked about the most, lolSee, I have a problem listening to Vol. 1 after getting Vol. 2. Stroehms, that Trivium song is pretty bad ***. I like how it speeds up into a punk-ish drum for a bit. Other two are not bad, but not exactly that sound ya know?
Misfit, that song is pretty cool too, hot chick in there. It sounds like Chris Jericho's singing, btw, if you've never heard his band Fozzy. Sounds a bit like the Nordic Rock too.
Jistic, of course, Pantera is one of the greats. Bad *** stuff.Last edited by TheMatrix31; 05-03-2010, 06:48 PM.Comment

Re: Hard Rock fans, help me out!
AlterBridge and metal? LMAO
Sorry, but just found random observation funny.
The lead singer has a great voice, but he's really just singing over crappy Creed music.Comment

Re: Hard Rock fans, help me out!
I'll be seeing Skillet live at the MMRBQ concert with STP, AIC, 3 days grace, fuel, and other bands I've never heard of..haha
It seems like this is crossing over to metal. I have a lot of metal bands in my collection.
I saw Mastodon as well. I've seen a lot of damn bands from going to a festival every year.

Re: Hard Rock fans, help me out!
No problem. Like I said, their album 'Crusade' is pretty Metalloca like. Check out these songs: "Tread the Floods", "Sadness Will Sear", "The Crusade" (instrumetal), "To the Rats" and "Contempt breeds Contamination". I'll post vids when I get off of work. But yeah, pretty much all of the 'Crusade' album is the closest you can get to the Metal Gods of Metallica.Stroehms, that Trivium song is pretty bad ***.
