Yeah, I think people are taking the continuity aspects way too seriously.

It may be a film about robots, but it still needs a good story.

What is the purpose of introducing characters in the first place if they are meaningless? Just put together two hours worth of robot wrestling and explosions, and disperse it to the theaters. Is that what you are looking for in a Transformers film?

Some people like a genuine story to go along with explosions and robots. Taking out Mikaela, unless done in the proper way (killing her off, proper emotional response from Sam, revenge, etc...), spells doom for the story. We saw what happens when the story sucks (Transformers II)....do you want a repeat of that?

The first one had a decent story to go along with the robot fights. It wasn't the greatest story, but it was fine enough to tie everything together. The second one had a awful story, and it suffered because of it.

I think killing of Mikaela can do the story some good, but it has to be done right. If she is removed from the film completely, without even so much as a scene (death scene), I don't see how the film can work. I don't see how they can wrap up the story unless she at least makes a cameo.

"By the way Sam, Mikaela was hit by a bus. She's dead now."

Not going to cut it.

I disagree with you there. The Transformers concept is a solid one except Hollywood wants to go the easy route with it. That's what frustrates the heck out of me with the series so far. There are bits and pieces of good stuff in there like the implication that Prime and Megatron are brothers, the Allspark concept which in other TF media (along with the Matrix) is used in much the same way as a Holy Grail/Holy Relic is to us except in the TF world it actually has power to go with significance and then there's the near death experience of Prime in TF2 which could've been quite interesting but instead was clunky and confusing.

It doesn't help that Michael Bay has stripped all personality out of the characters by making them a plot device rather then actual characters. The designs are horrendous for the most part with only Prime and Bumblebee looking decent. You'd think they'd try to at least mimic the G1 look instead it's a freak show.

All in all there's a lot to mine but unfortunately Bay and Co. just want to skim the surface.
