Re: Steve Carrell Leaving The Office

Still love the show. I think it can do well without Carrell. They can pull a CSI stunt and get someone who fills in nicely enough not to take away too much from the regulars. I guess I'm not as critical as the rest of you guys. I also realized that I don't watch television as much as most of you so it is a great show that I do appreciate. I think that every season I've bought has been worth the time to watch. Can't wait to buy 6 and watch 7 when it comes out. Hope the "right" thing works out adn it gets settled.

I think the interactions between the rest of the Office is what really makes the show great, more than Michael. I think they can find a way to replace him.
Michael is the biggest and best part of the show-the heart and soul of the show. Carrell is also a marketable medium level movie star, and I can't see how the ratings won't suffer with him gone.

Anyone else agree with me that they think it'd be able to go on with Stephen Colbert replacing Michael?

Why would Colbert do that? He has his own show and is doing extremely well with that. I'm sure there' not even time for him to do both... kind out of left field with that one IMO. I'm sure it would probably work comedy-wise just because Colbert is a damn genius, but it doesn't make much sense for him to jump onto a show that's on the downward slope when his is still going strong.

I think they'll just "promote" Jim (assuming other cast members don't also leave... namely Jenna, Rainn, and John, since they're the biggest stars of the group along with BJ Novak) or one of the other regulars to that position, have Michael ride off into the sunset with Holly, and move on with the same cast and probably another corporate character or two (Gabe was signed on for next season, so he's likely a regular now).

I'm not sure that he would have enough time because he's already got a new show that starts soon on HBO called Boardwalk Empire. It looks pretty good, BTW.

Michael Kenneth Williams, the actor who played Omar on "The Wire" has a big part in that one also, and it's directed by Terence Winter (Sopranos writer) and Martin Scorcese. Looks awesome, and I think it'll be one of those HBO shows that we'll be talking about for a while based on the setting and cast involved: http://hbo.com/boardwalkempire

The answer to who should replace Steve Carell is Andy Buckley. He played David Wallace.

I think he could be quite good in that role. And there'd actually be an established story with him. The once fallen CFO returns to run a branch.

Great idea. His cameos he has periodically are hilarious too now that he's Gina sort of nuts lol.

LOVE IT, LOVE IT! He's such a hate-able person and pulls off being an a-hole so well that it would be brilliant. I think the best route would be an older comedian who has been out of the limelight.

As I read through the thread, my first thought for Michael's replacement was David Wallace, but he may have too much of a "corporate" feel to be a regular on the show. Jon Lovitz would be insanely funny, but I think Darrell is the best choice. There is already a subplot with him being groomed and positioned to move up in the company, and His comedic style kills me. The song he wrote for the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company advertisement was off the charts.

John 4:23. He is seeking a seeker.
John 3:20. Say no to normal.

I still think every episode is awesome. It will be very strange without Michael but I think they could really work with it if the writers tried to. I will be watching until the last episode for sure. Still a great show with or w/o him.
