Barkley is really bad. No sense of comedic timing either.

Honesty I'm not sure why they keep bringing him back when he isn't funny. He has no memorable skits to push and he doesn't handle the material well. It's just poorly done.

The last 2 Chuck hosted episodes resulted in a big rating (helped by the NFL Playoffs).

One of my favorite skits these days, mainly because of Jason Sudeikis dancing in his red jumpsuit. That alone always makes me laugh.

                So yeah...Daniel Radcliffe.

Show was pretty weak. Not much else to say. I liked the sketch from the future and Kristen Wiig's "Exit Polling" sketch at the end. Otherwise it was just a flat show.

I liked the idea of "You Can Do Anything", though I'd have to see more to really get behind it. Radcliffe's jig while doing Chinese calligraphy was hilarious. They like doing these sketches where they mock the internet, but I thought they did it much better with Melissa McCarthy and the "Comments Section" sketch.

"The Jay Pharoah Show" was also a funny idea, having Jay as a host so disinterested in his guests that he just breaks out his impressions. It kind of cements his status as a one-trick pony on SNL; but I like the idea.

                  Re: Saturday Night Live

I'm starting to think there's a chance Pharoah won't be back next season. It's obvious the writers don't care about him because he's barely in any sketches and if he is featured in a sketch, it's usually about his impressions.

SNL rarely does any Obama sketches so even playing Obama won't do much for him (and of course Obama might not be the President pretty soon). I don't have twitter but if you are, tweet at Seth Meyers about my idea of a Obama and Bush sketch about them one upping each other about how they have failed at their job. I think this idea has potential.

The writers missed a golden opportunity for an Obama sketch when he asked Iran to return the US drone. They could have done a sketch about how naive and clueless he is when it comes to dealing with foreign countries.

I didn't think last week's episode was good but Radcliffe was a good host. He looked really comfortable (I'm sure the Broadway experience helped him) and I'm sure he will be asked back.

I don't remember seeing Andy Samberg or Keenan during any of the live sketches.

Obama and Bush one-upping each other probably won't work until Obama is either re-elected or loses the position. Then they could either make it about how Obama messed up and still got another four years just like Bush Jr.

Or, they could go with a nice reversal and make it how Obama messed up on purpose and got out of there in four years (winning in his mind) and Bush realizes it was the right move.

I could see potential in that being funny. Either way, the one-up idea is comedy gold. It has to happen or SNL just doesn't have the right writers.

I saw this past episode. I don't know why I keep watching. Also, what was the deal with Del Ray? She was...awful, though I've heard much better from her before.

That Obama sketch idea could work. They could bring back Ferrell to do a cameo as Bush.

I didn't think LDR was as awful as most people said she was. She lacks stage presence but you can't really dance/move to her kind of music. I think she succeeded in getting attention even if it was negative.

They need an Obama for August through November during the election. I personally think Armisen's Obama is horrible and there is a chance he wont be back next year. If Armisen leaves, they still need an Obama and Pharoah is the only one capable of an impression.

Also keep in mind that Darrell Hammond was around for 14 years and all he could do was impressions.

I've heard her music before and I liked it. Something about her performance on SNL didn't hit me the right way.

But you're right, she got attention and I bet people are listening to more of her stuff now and probably even liking it.

Fred leaving SNL is the only reason I'm hoping Portlandia becomes any kind of success. I've tried watching Portlandia...and my sense of humor just doesn't mesh with Fred Armisen's at all.

Also keep in mind that Darrell Hammond was around for 14 years and all he could do was impressions.
Fair point. I think I said this before, but Pharoah's biggest weakness is how awkward he looks when he's just a character in a sketch and not doing an impression. Because he's on so infrequently, it's tough to tell if it's going to hurt him or if it's just something he can grow into if they just give the man some material.

Also a potential issue if they give him Obama and he bombs (though I personally doubt he would). There's no one else that could step into it, so I can see the risk from their perspective. I would take the risk ten times out of ten though.

Anyone else wonder about next season's cast? It seems like Wiig, Sudeikis, and Armisen have one foot out the door. Wiig and Sudeikis are getting more movie roles and increasing their post-SNL stock; and Armisen has the aforementioned Portlandia. The men are fine, in my opinion. Bill Hader is up there right now in terms of consistency with Taran Killam not far behind. Bobby Moynihan has also surprised me this year. For women it would be tough losing Kristen, but I think Nasim Pedrad could step up into a more prominent role.

Wiig is gone for sure after this season. She's in the final year of her contract and she has a lot of projects lined up. She is really in demand in Hollywood right now. Sudeikis is also in the final year of his contract and he's pretty much a goner. He already talked about leaving last season.

Despite being a newer cast member, I feel like Bayer has already passed Pedrad and Elliot in terms of sketchtime. I think Bayer even gets a bigger role once Wiig bolts.

I'd be for that. Outside of Miley Cyrus, I can't name anything else that Bayer's done that stands out, but she's been pretty solid so far this year. Abby Elliott is a weird case. She was just hanging around for a couple seasons, then randomly starts getting in more sketches last season and continuing into this current one. They're going to need to find some Second City gems to fill out the female portion of the cast though. Three seems under-staffed.

Hell, I think Michaela Watkins should still be on the show.
