Sure, there have been some funny skits over the years since (Church Lady, Wayne's World, Mr Robinson's Neighborhood) but the original show, every skit was hilarious. Even the satire commercials.....the Newsdesk.....etc. Kept me in stitches for the whole hour.
I think time is getting the best of you....hehe. I grew up with the original SNL and I even remember those last half hour dog skits. There were some bad ones.

I think the original and the Carvey/Nealon/Hartman/Hooks ensemble was just as good.

Okay, this is the first time I've tuned into SNL in years. Can someone please explain "The Wishin' Boot" parody?

Will have to go find it and embed it when I'm not on my phone, but Fallon had a great story about the night/after party on his show, it's on YouTube.

I think it was just a jokey country song because they had a country singer as host. I don't think it was a parody of any specific song.

New episode in 15 minutes. Dakota Johnson and Alabama Shakes.

I don't know that I'd even know Dakota Johnson if she wasn't on the SNL40 thing saying that she'd be hosting, so I have no idea what to expect from her on the show. Setting my hopes low and seeing if she can surpass them.

I liked Alabama Shakes the first time they were on, so hoping that ends up good again.

Does anyone know if the cold open was a parody of something? I have no clue what that was about.

I won't say I thought the show was good, but I liked it better than I thought I would. I will always, always appreciate a host that doesn't make it entirely obvious that they're reading cue cards, so on that front Dakota Johnson was awesome.

Didn't get the opening because I hadn't seen the movie, but oh well. Also don't know that I would've brought back that homeless(?) Cecily Strong character, and the "Say What You Want to Say" thing was dumb, aside from Kate McKinnon in it.

Really liked the 'Dad dropping off his daughter' video, and the other stuff was so dumb I thought it was funny, especially Worf M.D. and Kyle Mooney as the kid interviewing Dakota for his school paper.

                        Alabama Shakes also sounded great.

I thought the ISIS skit was hysterical but judging by the internets reaction I appear to be in the minority

Haven't watched much of the episode but thought it was hilarious also.

If people are taking about it, mission accomplished.

I also liked the idea from earlier this season about ISIS going on Shark Tank to get funding for the group. The sketch ended up falling flat, but I thought the idea itself was great.
