I have no idea if this is the same season.
But Jim Carrey hosted last night and I saw a couple skits.

The Black Swan skit was Hilarious.
Jim can still be funny as hell

Yes, that was the newest episode and I saw some classic Jim Carrey there. I'm talking Jim Carrey In Living Color classic.

Obviously not as raunchy, but you don't see those skits on SNL. The one where they were the mechanical puppets is very risque for the show. I can't remember the last time anyone really used fear in that sense on SNL.

If you wanted my opinion, Jim Carrey wrote, cowrote, collaborated, something that sketch and the Black Swan one. That's right up his alley of comedy.

The rest of the show was weak.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Yeah, that mechanical puppet sketch was hilarious. Jim Carrey and Taran Killam were almost too good at the movements.

The rest was, as you said, weak.

I didn't think it was weak at all. It was probably one of my favorite shows this season. He even managed to make Keenan's "old man teaches sexual positions" sketch kind of funny. I loved the mechanical puppets and the psychic that just did impressions the most. The musical guests were pretty good too.

Yeh, the robotic ride was pretty freaky as to how realistic they looked at creating robotic movements.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I didn't mean weak as bad, necessarily; just not as funny as I was expecting.
-The show started off weak with Bloomberg (a couple good lines, but too localized of a premise to open, would've been better as Weekend Update guest rant).
-They reran the pubic hair restoration commercial (again). It was humorous the first time, but not enough for several repeats.
-Black Swan was funny but I felt I was missing something without having seen the movie yet.
                -Healing Conversations was decent.
-I think Grady Wilson is always funny. I know I'm in the minority on that, but eh.
-Soul Train was pretty crappy aside from Jim Carrey.
-Update was okay. Hader's Boehner cry was so Cowardly Lion-esque is distracted me. All I could do was try and think of possible 'Wizard of Oz' sketches.
-Psychic was good. Nobody does a Thicke!
-Homeless band was...something. I laughed but I have no idea what the joke was or why I laughed.

Aside from the hair commercial, nothing was bad. I just didn't find much outside of a couple sketches to be good.

Yeah, Sudekis was killing me during the psychic skit. His lines were golden. "Nobody does a Thicke!"

I thought the episode was one of the best of the season, and even the past few seasons. Jim Carrey still has it.

They had no place to live and they were asking the crowd. Jim's voice was awesome. The movement on the roller coster guys were great. They looked mechanical.

I forgot about the psychic. That one was good.

Jim Carrey made the show last week. Without him everything else was week. That's how I saw it.

I thought this past weekend's was pretty strong, though I had low hopes because I don't think Gwyneth Paltrow is that funny. I don't know if SNL will totally change that perception from me, but it helped.

They seem to be leaning pretty hard on Garth & Kat on Weekend Update though...don't know about anyone else, but it's starting to run its' course. It's pretty similar to 'What Up With That?' in that respect. If they want to use Kristen Wiig or Fred Armisen on WU, they could bring out Judy Grimes or Nicholas Fehn to break it up a little.

Really good episode though, overall. Also good to see Jay Pharoah getting featured this week. All the 'Featured Players' are coming on strong this year.

I thought the first half was 'meh' and the 2nd half was pretty strong. Really liked the ESPN Deportes skit, Fresh Prince skit, and Shakespeare previews.
