    Re: Superman Reboot

^^^But the whole idea of Superman Returns was that Superman/Lex were already established, and they were/are. It wasn't meant to be an origin story, and I was actually happy with that, since I'm completely sick and tired of "reboots" and "origin stories".

One thing I did forget to mention was my hatred of Kate Bosworth. She had no business playing Lois Lane, just a really, really awful casting decision.

You may be tired of them but the moviegoing public doesn't seem to be. I think this was one problem with SR. Singer tried to shoehorn Superman Returns into the canon of the old Reeves films. This would've been understandable if the movie was made 5-6 years after the Reeves films but almost 20 years had elapsed. He was better served to create something out of whole cloth or go with a hard reboot with an origin and everything.

But everybody knows Superman. He's the most widely recognized superhero, as are his origins, and his story. Why waste time on that again?

Batman Begins made sense. Burton's Batmans weren't really the origin of him. He pretty much already existed, with little time devoted to his backstory. Superman already had his origin story told. Not to mention there's been a weekly television show devoted to his origin running for like a decade now, hasn't it? An origin story is completely unnecessary.

I think the difference is that Nolan is coming on board with this, so Superman might need a world origin if that makes sense. The important thing with Batman Begins was realizing that Gotham was nothing more than a city in economic turmoil headed by crime lords and mob bosses. This was an asset to his motivation for becoming Batman. If Nolan recreates the world that Superman is in (even if it's within the same world as Batman), this part needs to be developed.

That script would of been awesome. Superman needs someone on his own level to fight, I always thought that Brainiac would of been the best way to go about it. In a world where technology has become so advanced, it would of been a bit more believable for a villain like Brainiac

But because of the pending litigation with the Siegal family and WB this cannot be a complete origin story. So wouldn't it have just made since to continue with what Singer had going which was playing off the Donner films origin story rather than going in this direction which will have no ties to any previous films but has no origin?

Perhaps. It depends on what story Nolan wants to tell with Superman.

Don't get me wrong, I would much rather see less reboots/remakes as well. I'm just saying what I think probably happened when they were putting something together.

I understand your take on telling a superman origin again in film but it's not like it could not be done and feel fresh. They could actually show life on Krypton before it's destruction perhaps. They could actually tell Luthor's story on the big screen. It was a bad decision to try and piggyback Donner. Even all the Batman movies gave a story and motivation behind most of the villians. No movie maker should just assume people know everything and ignore opportunities to tell stories. Nor should they assume everyone going to see SR has watched 7 + seasons of Smallville as well or read all the comics. Character development should never be cast aside.
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

Guys if you have time you should check out this article analysing Superman Returns. It brings up some interesting issues and I am eagerly awaiting to see how Snyder positions his Superman now that he has the benefit of hindsight regarding Singer's movie.

Thanks for posting that bjowers29. It makes Superman Return make more sense.
I guess I'm one of the few that enjoyed 'Returns'. I understand why some hated it - after-all it was mostly Superman lifting heavy things for 2 hours.
But it had some great qualities and I enjoy watching it today.

I really hope they come out with the extended version some time.

I can't wait for the new one to come out either. If Nolan can make Superman half as good as Batman Begins, I'll be ecstatic.
Superman is the best superhero out there. In the right hands and minds, he could have the best movie too.

If you notice in the trailer at the scene from 2:20 - 2:23 was when Clark was going to rescue the Shuttle and Plane, in the origional version what was being played there when Clark left the bar and ripped open his shirt to become Superman he did not have his suit on (as seen in pic 1)
he had left his suit in his suitcase at the daily planet as he was not sure if he wanted to be Superman again, but when this disaster was happening he knew he had to do something. Which brings him to the scene we see in the trailer and this..(pic 2)
him sneaking out of the broom closet at the Planet as Superman while everyone is watching the events unfold on the television.

Hope I made some sort of sense in my rambling
