But have that Donner feel, probably with John Williams music at least I hope that music just screams Superman and fits that franchise like his music to Star Wars. And I think Routh is the guy for Superman. He seperates the 2 entities well and is the perfect age still to do a 2 or 3 movie deal.
Oh I agree it'll have a feel like the Donner movie. What I meant was the first 3rd or so of Returns felt EXACTLY like an extension of Donner's Superman. I'm hoping that this new film will keep that kind of tone for the entire film and not fall off the rails like Returns did about halfway through.

That being said, I did like Returns for what it was. The only thing that really upset my apple cart was the Super Kid storyline. The "Luthor beating up Supes" scene caused some controversy but I think it was pretty good and shows that the Man of Steel CAN be vulnerable.

Is nice to see someone else that has the same feelings as I do with Returns. I did read that Zack "doubts" he'll bring Routh back but heres to hoping. If not him maybe it would be cool to see Welling do it since he says he's now open to the idea since Smallville is ending. Maybe we could get a poll started with a few people we'd like to see play The man Of Steel and put it to a vote.

I don't really want to see Welling on the big screen.

I don't either and not because of his ability to handle the role. I've faithfully watched every episode of Smallville and want to see total closure to the series. That means he becomes Superman and flies into the wild blue yonder with Lois. End of story.

From what I have read, Goyer's script was a mess so they are going to use the Superman Birthright storyline as a starting point, in order for WB to get the movie into production before 2011 to avoid losing it's rights to Superman.

Sounds like I have to read that.

Any comic experts know if it's in TPB format?

I don't know what TPB is but here is a good synopsis of it. It is a good story.

Birthright was done about 5 or 6 years ago so I'm pretty sure it should be in TPB by now. It's a really good retelling of Superman's origins, definitely worth a read.

I always thought that Birthright would have been the perfect story to base a reboot on and I was quite amazed that Superman Returns was tied to the Donner continuity. You guys reading Birthright for the first time are in for a treat, personally I loved it. Waid made some curious decisions but all in all it was a great story.

If they are going down this road then I guess that nixes the rumors that Jon Hamm was going to play an older Alex Ross styled Superman. Either way I'm hoping for a movie that finally resonates the way a Superman film should. Returns was okay but I was hoping for so much more.

Honestly there has been only one origin story for Superman in the theaters, and that was in 1978. So I don't mind it so much just as long as they don't take a lot of liberties but if they stick with the birthright feel of it is could be good.

I'd be interested to see a complete reboot. Start with the origin and everything. Maybe even spend the first hour on Clark's experiences in highschool or college.

I would like to see Superman For All Seasons work for a movie, even if it was an animated one. I really enjoyed that one.
